They do have a relationship as they share a lot of similarities: one of the similarities is having the word "design" which can be described as creating something from nothing. However, graphic and web designing are two different things.
Graphic designing is commonly known in print media and has existed since print media came into being. However, web design came into being after the internet was introduced and websites were developed.
Since graphic designing and web designing are closely related, some people might get confused. Web Design
While graphic designing is all about print media, web designing is all about internet. In web design, a web designer will create a web page on the internet for his client. These days every company wants to have a website in order to promote their projects. A web designer has to work exclusively for websites. A web designer will have to come up with a creative idea and will work on executing his ideas on a web page. So, basically he will be working on coming up with a graphical display but for an online website. A web designer will use various applications such as HTML, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, PHP and images such as JPG and PNG to bring his/her creativity into reality.
Web design uses text, images, digital media and interactive elements are used by web designers to produce the page seen on the web browser. As a whole, the process of web design can include conceptualization, planning, producing, post-production, research, advertising.
Relationship
Graphic designing and web designing are interlinked with each other in a lot of ways. Web designing can be a little more complicated as coming up with ideas for a website and executing them as well. We can easily say that a graphic designer will come up with a perfect piece and web designer will decide how to implement it to a website.
Although they are closely related, while hiring a web designer or a graphic designer, a client must understand his/her requirements. All the tasks that a web designer can perform cannot be performed by a graphic designer and vice versa. Since both fields share similarities, a web designer and graphic designer might have a good knowledge about the opposite field, but this doesn't mean that they will be good at both as well.
There are many similarities between a graphic designer and a web designer:

- Both are able to put their minds into reality in an understandable way.
- Both use images and typography.
- Both understand the importance of color tone and shapes in any design.
- Both understand the importance of choosing the right kind of font.
