AI was everywhere, but kind of discreet. But this is changing.
Since generative AI becomes a trend, thanks to OpenAI that created ChatGPT, there have been lots of other companies that wish to piggyback the hype, and either partner with OpenAI, or create a new one on their own.
Samsung its one of the latter.
The South Korean conglomerate company has what it calls the 'Galaxy AI', which debuted alongside the Galaxy S24, its flagship phone in 2023.
This time, the company said that it is releasing it to more phones, in order to reach millions more users.
Galaxy AI was the major focus of the Galaxy S24 launch, with those phones benefitting from AI-powered capabilities aimed at improving communication, simplifying searches and expanding editing capabilities.
This time, Samsung confirms that through One UI 6.1, it is bringing Galaxy AI to select Galaxy devices.
They include the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip55 sold at Samsung.com, carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, UScellular, Verizon and more, as well as retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and others.
One UI 6.1 is also rolling out to Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Wi-Fi versions.
The full Galaxy AI suite included in the One UI 6.1 update for these devices, including Google’s Circle to Search, Live Translate, Chat Assist, and more.
It is already known early on that Samsung would not limit some of its most anticipated AI features to the Galaxy S24 series.
After all, Galaxy AI was one of of the Galaxy S24 key selling point, and that Samsung made sure to advertise all of the AI's features.
Samsung is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in the world.
Unlike Apple, its closest competitor in the mobile industry, Samsung has a wide range of devices that cater to different needs and preferences. Samsung has been in the smartphone business for quite some time, and in that many years, the company has established itself as a major player in the industry.
On the outside, and on the hardware department, there is no denying that Samsung pretty much bests everyone. But on the inside, it's kind of a different story.
Bixby, for example, is seen as a product far inferior to all other AI-powered assistants.
With Galaxy AI, Samsung is like supercharging Bixby to be more than just a mere assistant.
To bring Galaxy AI's features, Samsung uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which according to Qualcomm in a website post, allows the phone to "enable new experiences with AI features to empower users’ everyday life."
This is why Samsung also hinted that these features might eventually reach the Galaxy S22.
