WhatsApp Updates Polls Feature, And Adds Captioning Ability To Its Sharing Feature

WhatsApp

When it comes to sheer number of users, there is no denying that WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps.

WhatsApp was originally created with simplicity in mind, by showcasing straightforward feature that has little to no gimmick. But gone are those days, because since acquired by Meta, the messaging app has become increasingly complex. But regardless, it remains useful.

This time, not long after announcing the 'Keep In Chat' feature to save disappearing messages, WhatsApp introduces a few more updates.

As explain by Meta in a blog post, they include updates to the Polls feature, and the ability to share captions.

"We’re updating polls on WhatsApp, so that you can now create single-vote polls, search for them in chats and receive notifications when people vote on your polls."

"You can now also forward media with captions, or add captions to documents when sharing to add context before someone responds."

First, is the WhatsApp Polls update.

With the update, users can create single-vote polls, by simply toggling off the 'Allow multiple answers' mode before making the polls live.

This is to ensure that participants can only respond once to their question when they are looking for a proper answer. Moreover, users should be able to get notification each time a vote is registered.

The notification in question will display the total number of votes for the poll.

There might be times when users are unable to respond to a poll immediately and looking for it is a problem. Not anymore, because with the update, users can search for polls within a chat using the search functionality, the same way they might search for a specific conversation with the chat.

The next feature, is the ability to forward messages with captions.

"Sharing photos on WhatsApp is one of the easiest ways to keep friends and family updated on your life, and the ability to forward media means you can quickly re-share images from one group of connections to another. But sometimes you might not have time to add context before someone responds."

With an update, when users forward a media that has a caption, they have the option to keep that caption, delete it, or rewrite it.

"You can also add a caption to photos and videos when you forward them," said Meta.

Just like when sharing images or videos, users can also share documents which can captions.

"Just like when sharing images or videos, the documents you share may require a little explanation. Whether it’s when sending a newspaper article or a work document, now you have the option to add a caption before sharing," as explained by WhatsApp in its own blog post.

The updates are more into improvements in content sharing through the platform, in which has become more granular.
