Playpen was launched as a dark net's website only, and can only be accessible through The Onion Router or TOR. Playpen. For its intentions and purposes, Playpen was one of the darkest website in the dark corners of the web. It was said to be the world's largest child sexual abuse site.
It was in early 2015, during Operation Pacifier that the FBI compromised its system. The FBI continued the site's operation for 12 days in an attempt to catch criminals uploading, viewing, sharing and downloading files from the site.
For that brief period of time, in its attempt to catch pedophiles, FBI was one of the world's largest host for images and video depicting child sexual abuse on the internet.
