Facebook Stories And Messenger Day Become Just 'Stories', But With Synced Cross-Posting

Goodbye Messenger Day, and hello again Facebook Stories.

The social giant has simplified and integrated Messenger Day and Facebook Stories into one single experience, dubbed 'Stories', it should ease anyone who really wants to use it.

The company has four variations of Stories on its different networks: Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger Day. With the update, users that post something on Facebook Story, will see that Story on Messenger, and vice versa.

Stories are the same as regular stories, as users can post images or videos which will disappear after 24 hours.

However, each app will still have its distinct effects. For example, Facebook’s Stories have masks and augmented reality Snapchat-style effects, while Messenger remains focused on stickers and drawings on the image. This allows users to keep on using the platforms the way they’re used to, without having to share the same post on two different apps.

Users don’t be shown the same story twice. Once they've seen someone's Story on one app, it'll be checked on the other.

The update eases users in creating and viewing Stories, and this is Facebook's attempt to boost its usage.

While the Messenger feature is becoming one, and the same as the Facebook feature, the responses to Stories will appear inside Messenger instead of Facebook Direct. The change, as with combining Day with Stories, helps Facebook in cleaning up the system so it will lead to less confusion.

Facebook is also expanding the tool to allow Group administrators as well as Facebook Events to post Stories. Unlike the Stories from profiles, a Group with multiple administrators can have multiple contributors. The change allows Facebook’s online communities to join in on the Stories feature.

Facebook has in addition been testing out crossing over Instagram and Facebook Stories. This makes a lot of sense since Instagram Stories had 300 million daily active users in September 2017.

While not everyone likes Facebook's Stories and its variations, it's certainly devastating to Snap Inc., which its Snapchat app has been suffering since Facebook introduced the Stories feature to its variety of apps.
