Apple's CarPlay

10/06/2013

CarPlay (previously released as iOS in the Car, abbreviated as iOSitC) is Apple's way to re-introduce its iOS devices to work with manufacturers' built-in in-car systems. It was unveiled during the opening keynote of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Integration is aimed for several functions that iOS devices currently incorporate, these include but not limited to:

  • Siri: eyes-free and hands-free operation.
  • Satellite navigation.
  • Telephony instruction and control.
  • Music control.
  • iMessage control and response.

CarPlay's interface runs on QNX, a platform owned by BlackBerry since 2010.
