The 'Home Alone House' On Airbnb. For Rent Only For The Holiday Season

01/12/2021

On 671 Lincoln Ave in Winnetka, Illinois, a famous house proudly stands.

Best known as the McCallister's house in the Home Alone franchise, the iconic three-story house with red brick walls is put for rent on Airbnb.

For just $25 a night for one night only on December 12, guests can have “a cozy holiday scene with twinkling lights and a perfectly trimmed tree awaits you at the McCallister ‘castle.'”

This is made possible thanks to the Kevin (Macaulay Culkin's character in Home Alone) older brother Buzz (Devin Ratray) who is hosting the stay.

"You may not remember me as particularly accommodating," Ratray said in a statement.

"But I've grown up, and I'd be happy to share my family home — my pizza, even — with you this holiday season. Just try not to let my tarantula, Axl, loose this time."

The house on Airbnb is meant to mainly attract fans of the Home Alone franchise, due to the perks the house has when it is listed.

For example, some booby traps Kevin set up in the house can be found.

The house is also redecorated to at least give that nostalgic Home Alone vibes of the 90s.

Ratray said he hopes it will be snowing like it was in the film, and is excited about giving fans the opportunity to experience the house for themselves.

"You've seen the movie so many times, you've seen the Christmas tree in the front room, you've seen the staircase, people running up and down, you've seen the kitchen where Buzz lovingly barfed up all the cheese pizza. Now you get to walk through that," he said, adding that the mess has long since been cleaned up.

As for Airbnb, the company said that it is welcoming the guests of the house with a "cozy holiday scene," including with twinkling lights and a Christmas tree, as well as a meet-and-greet with a real tarantula, a LEGO Ideas Home Alone set to take home and "all of the '90s favorites their hearts desire," from Chicago pizza to a candlelit dinner of microwavable mac and cheese.

"This holiday season, we're playing by my little bro's rules, so feel free to eat junk food, watch rubbish on TV, borrow my dad's aftershave and choose your own adventure with a legendary battle plan as a guide," continued Ratray in the property listing.

"Just stay out of my room, okay?"

During the Home Alone films, only a few rooms inside the house was shot. Only the kitchen, the main staircase, the basement, the attic, and most of the first floor were filmed.

This is because the production found that the rooms were too small for the equipment.

As a result, most of the time, only the exteriors of the house were featured in the film.

The production had to recreate and even duplicate some of the interiors for the filming.

And this listing by Ratray, describes the house with 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathroom house, and calls the neighborhood a friendly one "despite past encounters with crooks and folklore about Old Man Marley."

It should be noted that the property is being made available to coincide with the release of the Disney+ movie Home Sweet Home Alone.

In the past, a number of iconic movie locations have also been turned into rental properties the public can experience.

For example, Tony Stark’s log cabin from Avengers: Endgame was also put on Airbnb, and so did the Swan house from the Twilight franchise films, among others.
