According to the United Kingdom-based travel commerce platform Travelport, India tops its chart when it comes to the most digital travelers.

Coming at second place, is Indonesia.

The research was concluded in its Global Digital Traveler Research 2018, which surveyed and analyzed different digital traveler habits, with 16,200 respondents participating from 25 countries.

India tops the list for the second consecutive year, while Indonesia came up one spot higher than 2017. Brazil, China and Nigeria are ranked in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Travelport surveyed the respondents utilizing Toluna's Research sample of travelers who had at least taken one return trip in 2017.

Most of the respondents in the survey said that gadgets were considered vital for them. In fact, almost half of the respondents said they booked and paid for travel expenses using mobile apps.

The top three most important features on travel app for leisure travelers include: search and book flights (68 percent), entire trip itinerary in one place (67 percent), and real-time flight alert throughout their journey (64 percent). For business travelers, they also want hotel and car bookings (68 percent).

Among the respondents, China is the clear winner, with almost a 100 percent of them were using smartphones to book and pay for their travels.

On average, they were using 10-12 apps throughout their searching, booking, paying and travelling processes.

Features such as electronic payments, audio search and electronic hotel room were also considered helpful by the respondents in planning their trips.

In China and Turkey for example, the survey concluded that 70 percent of the respondents were using voice searches.

"It’s clear from our survey that in 2018, technology has turned travel into a home-from-home experience, as we remain connected to the platforms, apps and sources of information we use at home during our trip," said Travelport.

"It’s great to see confirmation that today’s travelers are already as excited about future technologies as we are about making them."

According to Travelport CEO Gordon Wilson:

"We can all see the way technology is changing almost every aspect of our lives. The travel industry has always been about new experiences and adopted new technologies early."

"This is as true today, with such high demand for voice search and biometric sreening, as it was when I joined this industry 30+ years ago."
