Facebook And PayPal Partnership Brings Peer-To-Peer Payments To Messenger

Facebook is making another push into the payments space by expanding its partnership with PayPal.

Teaming with the online payments system, the social giant brings the payment method to Messenger by adding PayPal in addition to debit cards list.

Initially rolling out in the U.S for iOS users., users can set up PayPal inside Messenger by tapping the '+' button and select the green payments button.

After entering the amount and tap 'pay', they will see the option to select the payment method.

If users have already used Messenger for payments before, they can just tap 'change' to switch to PayPal.

Previously, Facebook and PayPal has partnered to allow users to connect their accounts from both services, making it easier to shop on Messenger using PayPal. According to PayPal, over than 2.5 million customers have already linked their accounts with the feature.

With the announcement, Facebook supports peer-to-peer payments in Messenger, allowing users to send or request money using their PayPal account without leaving the Messenger app.

"We’re excited today to announce an expansion of our relationship with Facebook with the addition of PayPal as a funding source for peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, right in Messenger. People will have the option to send and request money using their PayPal account, and this integration in Messenger is starting to roll out to U.S. consumers today."

PayPal is also introducing a customer service bot for Messenger. This way, PayPal customers can receive support directly inside Messenger.

PayPal hopes this feature will "enable people to have meaningful customer service interactions, such as resetting passwords, handling account inquiries, and helping with refunds or payment issues."

PayPal and Facebook’s partnership for peer-to-peer payments comes ahead of the release of Apple Pay Cash.

For some Facebook users that have already used in making transaction using PayPal, this is an option for payment if they prefer to not give their debit card information to Facebook.
