Mozilla Introduces Firefox 106 With Better Access To Privacy, PDF Editor, And More

Firefox

The web has grown significantly larger, thanks to the many people contributing to its growth.

Mozilla is the creator of Firefox. And in the version 106 of the popular web browser, Mozilla introduces a bunch of new features "that deliver on our user promise to provide web experiences that prioritizes people’s privacy and needs whenever they go online."

To welcome October as "one of our favorite months of the year with Autumn and Cybersecurity Awareness Month," Mozilla said that it is supporting the Cybersecurity Awareness by delivering an update to its Private Browsing mode, the feature that allows users to browse using privacy protections like Total Cookie Protection and HTTPS by default.

The update allows users to create a dedicated shortcut for Private Browsing users can create to be pinned to their desktop.

"We also added a modern look and feel with a new logo and updated it so Private Browsing mode now defaults to dark theme, making it easier to know when you are in Private Browsing mode," said Mozilla.

Additionally, Mozilla also added features where users can pick up where they last left off.

The first is Firefox View.

"Our days consist of multiple tasks. Most tasks are easy to jump back into like a dog-eared page in a book or selecting the recently watched show in your streaming service app. We created Firefox View to help users navigate today’s internet," Mozilla explained.

Firefox View allows users to see up to 25 of their recently closed tabs within each window of their desktop device.

"Once you’ve synced your mobile devices, you’ll see the last three active tabs you had open on your other devices," Mozilla added.

Then, Mozilla enhanced Firefox Colorways, which is a desktop feature Mozilla introduced in 2021 that allowed users "to express their most authentic selves and bring joy while browsing the web."

Back in March 2022, Mozilla released a mobile version of this Firefox Colorways with wallpapers.

This time, Mozilla is releasing a limited edition of the Colorways and wallpapers collection inspired by Independent Voices.

"Behind this collection is streetwear and sneaker designer Keely Alexis, best known for the Air Jordans and other sneakers she created at Nike. The Colorways collection was her first collaboration with a technology company where she created bold and vibrant colored themes," explained Mozilla.

"Earlier this year we celebrated our 100th Firefox release and reaffirmed our commitment to put people first," said Mozilla.

Lastly, Mozilla introduces two new shortcuts to boost users' productivity.

The first, is a dedicated PDF editor.

Using this tool, users can write directly within PDF files. Users can even add their signature using this PDF editor.

"You know those PDF forms you receive either from your doctor or other service provider that you have to print out and send back to them? Now, you can," Mozilla said.

The second tool, is the Text Recognition feature.

What it does, is allowing users to copy only the text from images, so that they can share and store it without having to manually retype it.

"For those times when you want to separate and reuse text from an image (like that hilarious meme or screenshot)," said Mozilla, explaining the possible use of the feature, that is also compatible with VoiceOver, the built-in macOS screen reader.

Firefox is far from the most popular web browser, which is a title held by Google Chrome. But regardless of its popularity, Firefox’s updates simply improve the user experience.
