Protecting Viewers' Privacy, YouTube Removes Some Demographic Data Reports

In a post on YouTube forum, the video-streaming site said that is limiting the amount of data it shows inside its Demographic Data report.

What this means, creators can no longer filter viewer demographics data because YouTube, YouTube Kids, and YouTube Gaming are having their data aggregated. What's more, demographic data are no longer available for private or unlisted videos, some videos and also some channels.

Also, creators won't be able to filter demographics data according to the use of its Translations tool for video titles, descriptions, and subtitles.

YouTube’s demographics reports provide creators with age range and gender distribution of their audiences.

However, demographic data is said to stay in YouTube's Watch Time reports. Creators can still have access to demographic data for their unlisted videos, if those videos are ads from the AdWords for Video reports.

"You may not see demographic data if your public video or channel has limited traffic during the selected time period," says YouTube in the announcement in the YouTube Help Forum. Creators may be able to get the data by extending the time period in the report, or if their traffic increases.

The change to its analytics demographic report is aimed at protecting the privacy of viewers, and this shouldn't be a concern for everyone, by adding the following comment:

"You may see less data in the report than before, but keep in mind that this data is only useful to you if a meaningful number of people watched your content."

In other words, unless a video receives thousands of views, the creator won't likely miss any of the data that is YouTube is removing.
