The internet has a lot to give, and apparently, that means that it has too much to provide.
Since the first-ever photo was uploaded to the internet, which depicts four women posing in a promotional poster, it's certain that the internet would be the home for lots of visual contents, many of which would also include adult materials.
Based on the so-called Rule 34 of the internet, it's certain that "if something exists, there is porn of it".
And this is exactly why the "2 Girls 1 Cup" shock video became a phenomenon on its own.
Not because of it's pornographic nature that cemented it into pop culture, but it's the way it sets the standard for shock videos for the internet when it was released.
2 Girls 1 Cup is considered a "shock video," meaning that its sole intention is to disgust or offend its viewers.
Created in 2007, it's a pornographic video from Brazil, produced by MFX Media, released as the follow-up to the trailer for Hungry Bitches.
The full video that is about an hour long, shows two lesbian women, Karla and Latifa, kissing and performing cunnilingus, as well as rimming, to each other while half naked, in what appears to be a room inside a vacant house.
This is followed by scenes of Latifa defecating into a tall cup.
Then, they lick and eat the feces from the cup, devouring it, before vomit into each other's mouths.
After that, it's Karla turn to defecate, but this time, she did it into a bowl.
The two then continued by eating the excrement, to then vomiting what they consumed again.
The scenes are accompanies with the song Lover's Theme by Hervé Roy, or alternatively, playing Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
The full movie however has actual background audio, and include even more acts, like urinating, urine drinking, and smearing their feces all over the floor.
The video was originally filmed by Antonio Fiorito, who said that he always wanted to create a fetish film since 1994, and in particular, coprophilia was one of his main fetishes.
The film was met with mixed reviews, in a sense that people were arguing about the validity of what they see.
For example, some viewers said that the vomit was real, but it was regurgitated before reaching the stomach, meaning that little to no stomach acid was involved.
In addition, some said that majority of the vomit doesn't go into the other's mouth.
Others argued that the feces are actually food substances, due to the appearance that resembles ice cream or peanut butter.
Director Fiorito tried to verify this, saying that to film the scenes, soft serve ice cream was used and not fecal matter. However, since soft serve should be served in a cone not a cup, people they believe him.
But regardless, since the virality of the video, many started sharing their own opinions.
For example, there is a rumor that claimed Latifa died from dysentery after shooting the video, and that the director was arrested.
Since the video was viral, the video grew very popular that people started making parodies and reaction videos of it.
And because it became an internet meme, and setting a major standard in shock videos for the web, that would later also include influencing the naming of 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick among others, bloggers and internet forums have made reactions content to its graphic content elicited from its viewers.
People who commented on it, include actor George Clooney who said during an interview, that the video prompted him to compare it to a rodeo, saying the point of the video was to see how long people can last.
Joe Rogan, host of Fear Factor, had to turn away in a reaction video posted to his blog. Author Violet Blue described the video as "the new 'tubgirl' and goatse all in one disgusting moment of choco-poo-love." Veteran porn star Ron Jeremy couldn't comment because walked away while watching it.
Others however, managed to stomach the whole thing.
Singer Wyclef Jean, for example, managed to sat through the whole video without looking away or showing any apparent reaction, all while eating corn on the cob. Ace Frehley, formerly a Kiss band member, was unfazed, declaring, "Crazier things than that have happened on the road."
"Genuine Nerd" Toby Radloff was so disgusted by the clip that he had to immediately watch it again.
Many reaction videos exist, and have been making rounds on YouTube and other streaming media, even after more than a decade the film has been released.
While some reactions may be staged, this shows how far the video has cemented itself into pop culture and the internet.
2 Girls 1 Cup was even mentioned in a Family Guy episode, where Brian asks Stewie Griffin to help him get unhitched to a pole. Stewie refuses in retaliation for "making me watch that video with the 2 girls and a cup" followed by a cutaway to Brian filming Stewie sitting on the computer and watching the shock video and then proceeds to become surprised, disgusted, and shocked.
On the internet, where everything imaginable exists, or will soon exist, fetishes like this do exist and are plenty, and that they have their own market that keep the interest alive.
