Adobe Systems Incorporated, an American multinational computer software company headquartered in San Jose, California, U.S., was founded by John Warnock and Charles Geschke. The company was originally focused upon the creation of multimedia and creativity software products.

The company was established after the founders left Xerox PARC in order to develop and sell the PostScript page description language. In 1985, Apple Computer licensed PostScript for use in its LaserWriter printers, which helped spark the desktop publishing revolution.

The name "Adobe" comes from Adobe Creek in Los Altos, California. The 14.2-mile-long (22.9 km) northward-flowing stream that originated on Black Mountain in Santa Clara County, California, ran behind the houses of both of the company's founders. Adobe's corporate logo, featuring the stylized "A", was designed by Marva Warnock, wife of John Warnock, who is also a graphic designer.
