'Looking Between Letters On Your Keyboard' Meme, The Internet's Addiction Goes From Fun To Annoying

Social media is where people gather, and because of that, that many people who have different thoughts and ideas, can have different take on being fun.

This is why there is never a full moment on social media, especially when it comes to memes.

And this time, the meme that makes big wave, is the 'look between letters on your keyboard,' which challenges people to open their keyboard on mobile phones, or simply look down on their computer's keyboard, and see what's between the two letters the poster mentioned.

The main idea is to make people look at their keyboard to see (or not to see) a hidden message.

For example, when one says to "look between 'X and 'Y' on your keyboard," people will find a bunch of letters, with the letter 'F' that is probably sitting right in the middle.

Another example, is when a waiter asks a patron what to have, the would reply with "look between 'R' and 'Y' on your keyboard," which reveals to be the letter "T," or short for tea.

Nothing much about this meme, before the internet gets addicted to it.

It all started back in May 2021, in the notorious 4Chan board, where users anonymously share images and thoughts.

At the time, a user posted a meme featuring a character from K-On with the caption "look between t and o on your’e key bored," using misspelled words on purpose.

Those who look between the letter "T" and "O" on the keyboard, will find the letter "Y," "U," and "I".

This spells out "Yui," the name of a character from an anime series about high school girls forming a band.

It was only after this, that others started making their own versions of the meme, by simply swapping out the letters, for different letters.

While it's not that clear how a post that was years back began exploding years later.

People found it fun, because they realized that they can send hidden messages that way.

One good example, is the "look between 'Y' and 'I' on your keyboard," and that letter is "U" (You).

"The only person who can make your life better is ……… .Look between 'Y' and 'I' of your keyboard," for example

"Can i use the toilet? Normal teachers: Yes. French teachers: 'Look between 'Q' and 'R' on your keyboard," which reveals to be the letter "W" and "E", pronounced "we" in English, but in French, that same pronunciation is "Oui", which means "Yes" in English.

"Look between 'H' and 'L' of your keyboard" will reveal the letters "J" and "K", or "JK" - which means "just kidding."

Even Guinness World Records account on X addressed an applicant who wanted to break the longest streak without sleeping.

“Look between T and U on your keyboard,” the account posted of the letter “Y,” short for why.

Quickly, the meme, and all the mix and match of letters began populating the X platform.

Pretty much everybody is jumping on the bandwagon, and seemingly, no users can escape from the meme from appearing on their feeds.

What began as a fun thing, began annoying to those who kept seeing the meme because chances are, they've been looking down to their keyboard more than usual.

The trend goes from enthralling to irritating pretty quickly, as thousands of users posted them on X and other similar platforms.

While basically, many of the memes revolve around someone posting an absolutely braindead take to get others' attention and engagement before revealing they were actually joking, the social media joke that amassed a great deal of popularity, quickly worn out its welcome.
