Modu's patent portfolios for Google

Modu, the Israeli phone maker, sold its patents to Google for $4.9 million.

Modu manufactured tiny phones that could be slid into a range of different jackets, with various designs and functions: The Modu 1 could be inserted into a dock that turned it into a digital picture frame, or a jacket that added a 3MP camera.

The company was also working on the Modu T, a second-generation touchscreen modular device but never made it to market because of the company's financial problems.
