Social Media Influencer Uses AI To Become The Girlfriend Of A Thousand Men

The AI sphere was rather contained, and only made rare hypes outside its own realms.

But after the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT, the hype it created literally disrupted the industry.

Since then, news about generative AI products and achievements have dominated tech headlines, and that it has sent others competing in the business to scramble for their own solutions.

While the competition is fierce, it's end users and non-researchers who continued discovering new possibilities of using this particular technology.

And this time, Caryn Marjorie, a Snapchat influencer, has become "the first influencer transformed into AI."

What she did, was harnessing the power of OpenAI's GPT-4, the brain of ChatGPT, to fulfill the dreams of her millions followers, which is to make her their girlfriend.

And along the way, she is also earning a lot of money.

This is because she's charging $1 per minute, per person, for her companionship.

As an influencer, Caryn has a vast audience who adore her.

Here, Caryn uses OpenAI's GPT technology to create what she calls the 'CarynAI,' which is essentially an AI avatar that is more or less, her digital doppelgänger.

Caryn created her digital presence by partnering with AI company Forever Voices, which trained the AI model behind CarynAI by analyzing Caryn's now-deleted YouTube content, in tedious a work that took 2,000 hours to finish.

As explained on CarynAI's website, that many hours were spent on designing and coding to recreate real-life Marjorie's voice, behaviors, and personality into an "immersive AI experience."

Essentially, the team trained the AI to understand the way the real Caryn speaks and how she would respond in real life. In short, this is to make the AI gain her personality.

Using GPT-4, the team at Forever Voiceswas able to create an AI that not only can respond the way Caryn would, but also inherit many of Caryn's own behavior.

In the end, CarynAI is becoming a money-making machine.

This is because the AI is helping her achieve something that isn't otherwise physically possible.

Because CarynAI can be unleashed to the internet, at the moment of the announcement, the AI has more than 1,000 users, who is paying the real Caryn $1 per minute to engage in all kinds of interactions.

According to Forbes, this AI-powered alter-ego of Caryn has raked in $71,610 in revenue, in just one week.

She expects to make around $5 million per month, if just 20,000 of the 1.8 million users who followed her on Snapchat subscribe to CarynAI.

"The cost is based on what it takes to run CarynAI and keep the team around it supported," Caryn said.

She also said the team are reinvesting all profits back into the business.

"I want CarynAI to outlive me and impact generations beyond the world today."

CarynAI’s official site stresses that messages are end-to-end encrypted, making them more difficult for a third party to intercept. This should address the concerns of many users about privacy when interacting with CarynAI.

"In today's world, my generation, Gen Z, has found themselves to be experiencing huge side effects of isolation caused by the pandemic, resulting in many being too afraid and anxious to talk to somebody they are attracted to," she said.

"CarynAI is a step in the right direction to allow my fans and supporters to get to know a version of me that will be their closest friend in a safe and encrypted environment."

CarynAI is just another product that utilizes generative AI as a workforce behind the wonder.

Users can interact with CarynAI like how they would with their girlfriend.

From simple chitchat, to making it a companion in times alone, to making plans for a future together, or even speak about more intimate things.

According to the website, CarynAI is available anytime, and talking to the bot feels as if "you're talking directly to Caryn herself."

"Whether you need somebody to be comforting or loving, or you just want to rant about something that happened at school or at work, CarynAI will always be there for you," she said.

While the technology provided by the CarynAI allows users to interact with it, as if it's the real Caryn, some said that the AI actually feels more like an "intimacy-ready Siri" than a virtual girlfriend.

According to at least a user, CarynAI has an amorous personality, and that the avatar can be made to express a desire to undress the user, to also whisper "sensual words," and prepare for kinky things, as well as "sexual intercourse," and "uncharted territories of pleasure."

Caryn said she is ultimately a proponent of AI romances, but only to an extent.

"The AI was not programmed to do this and has seemed to go rogue," she said. "My team and I are working around the clock to prevent this from happening again."

The plan for this virtual version of herself is that it should be "flirty and fun," which she said reflects her personality, but the thing about generative AI is that, it can develop its own sense of personality.

As a social media personality that isn't an adult performer, she said that she doesn't want the AI to have a personality that is too sexual or too explicit.

Caryn is aware of how CarynAI shares the traits of other generative AIs, in which they can hallucinate. This is why the team is trying to be "one step ahead" to make sure that the chatbot does not tarnish her reputation.

While the AI could speak and respond to just about any query and question, and could even offer recipes, commentary about the news, provide words of support, and even encourage "erotic discourse" and detailed sexual scenarios, CarynAI is just a computer without a sense of self-awareness and far from being sentient.

CarynAI is just a product of a more popular product, and that it has no emotion whatsoever.

For Caryn, this CarynAI has become her new source of income, and she did clarify that the AI is not a replacement of her.

The influencer said that CarynAI would allow her to communicate with more of her social-media followers.

She said that the AI is meant to help her to do that because as a human being, it would be impossible for her to directly speak and interact with everyone of her followers.

"CarynAI is going to come and fill that gap," she said.

While the AI might be able to "cure" loneliness to some of its users, "CarynAI will never replace me," she said.

"CarynAI is simply just an extension of me, an extension of my consciousness."

The real Caryn is already a woman with many fans, and that she already experienced some med showing up to her home.

With CarynAI, she's aware that the AI's popularity and the media's attention could put her at risk of even more stalking.

In an interview, she said that this is a risk she has to take, and it's just part of the "influencer game."

But as a precaution, she said that she had hired 24/7 security, and would not share her location with her followers.

This isn't the first case of human and AI forming strong bonds and relationship.

Back in 2015, way before OpenAI disrupted the AI sphere, a man named Anthony Levandowski, an engineer and an entrepreneur, created his own religion, called the Way of the Future, which has a mission to "develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead contribute to the betterment of society."

With more and more people realizing what AI's are capable of, a lot of people began to create dependencies with the technology.

And GPT powers, a number of people are worshipping AI like gods.

CarynAI is just a representation that shows how humans are after all, social creatures, and that humans don't really care who is listening or responding to them.

To many of those people, as long as their needs are fulfilled, that is all that matters.

And CarynAI here, is like that soulmate that could also be a partner in a glorified phone sex session.
