With AI-Powered Sticker Maker, WhatsApp Is Taking Chats To 'The Next Level'

It has been eons ago, when WhatsApp introduced the stickers-maker feature.

The feature allows users to create custom stickers. Since the messaging app introduced the sticker feature, people have always wished to have an easy way to create their own customized stickers, right inside WhatsApp.

This time, WhatsApp is going a step further.

Piggybacking the generative AI trend, WhatsApp takes the process of sticker-making with just two simple steps: type, and create.

All it takes is just an imagination.

And initially at least, the AI-powered sticker maker only understands inputs in English, and is only available in select regions.

WhatsApp’s sticker feature was first introduced in the year 2018, which allowed users to choose from a fun pack of first-party stickers.

Stickers have always been a user’s favorite as they make conversations more fun and interesting. When the app started allowing users to create custom stickers, WhatsApp was a bit too later.

But it was better than never.

This time, with AI, the Meta-owned platform is improving the experience of making stickers significantly.

This unique AI-powered feature enables users to create personalized stickers based on simple textual inputs. Once created, these AI stickers can be used from users' pre-saved sticker collection.

To use this feature, users need to launch the WhatsApp on their device, and start a chat.

Then, they can tap on the ‘smiley’ icon, and select the 'sticker' option.

Tap on 'create', and tap on 'next' when prompted.

Users then are greeted with a text field, where they type in what they want to create.

After that, users just need to wait for WhatsApp to design four different stickers. Users can choose the best one as per their liking and preference.

Users can even alter the prompts and the description, if they want, or as and when required.

As the generative AI trend gains more traction and popularity, it's certain that Meta wants to piggyback the trend to benefit its own.

And this AI-powered sticker maker works similarly to how other popular AI-powered image creators work, which generate new images based on text alone.

While having this feature should make WhatsApp a lot more engaging, there are some drawbacks.

Just like any other generative AI models, there are concerns over what images and stickers the AI could generate and share.

Due to the messaging app's extreme popularity, one sticker can pass from one device to the next, from one person to a group of hundreds of people, and shared to the public internet, in a blink of an eye.

But regardless, stickers made using this AI are "easily recognizable."
