WhatsApp Introduces 'Pinned Messages' For Both Individual and Group Chats

WhatsApp 'pinned message'

Humans are social creatures, and that sometimes, they have a lot to say.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app around in terms of sheer numbers, Its flexibility and how it kept pretty much everything straightforward managed to make it remain competitive. And this time, things get even better on the messaging platform.

Previously, users are only allowed to pin the contacts of their choice on top of others.

This is like pinning shortcut, and it's certainly a convenience.

This time, WhatsApp starts allowing users to pin messages.

The company said users can pin all kinds of conversations, including text, polls, images and emojis.

The Meta-owned chat app mentioned that users can pin a chat by long-pressing on a conversation and selecting 'Pin' from the menu.

Users are then given the option to select the amount of time they want the message to be pinned.

Users can select 24 hours, 7 days (which is the default option) and 30 days.

This is particularly useful, like in the case where users are going to visit a location for the first time. Instead of scrolling to the address to find it deep within the chats, or use the search function, users can simply pin that message above all other chats, so users can have easy access to it.

For groups, it can be certain information about an event or a place to access rules or critical information.

The company said that in groups, admins can choose if just admins or any member would be able to pin a message.

However, users can pin only one chat at a time.

Long story short, the feature allows users to highlight a specific message in any ongoing one-on-one and group conversation and pin it to the top of that chat.

This would be ideal for pointing to important details like address, date or phone number and offering quick reference to older messages.

It's worth noting that WhatsApp’s main rivals, like Telegram and iMessage, have already offer a similar pin message option for users in both individual and group chats.
