At the third "Qiangwang" International Elite Challenge on Cyber Mimic Defense (CMD) in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province, a Chinese-proposed defense system was able to block 2.8 million attacks in two days.
In the event that happened from Friday to Sunday noon, the system managed to thwart cyberattacks from world's top white hat hackers from forty teams in 14 countries, including from China, U.S., Russia, Germany, Japan, South Korea, India.
As a result of this, the Chinese hacking team Tianshu won. They were followed by teams from 0ops and M01N, both also from China.
"The issues of cyber security at technical level have been generalized to the issues of national security at political level, resulting in various negative impacts on globalization," said Wu Jiangxing, an academic of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in Beijing and founder of the CMD theory.
Wu suggested that technical issues must be solved also with technical solutions.
And this requires safe and reliable cyber security theories, technologies, as well as methods.

Inspired by Mimic Octopus, which is s an Indo-Pacific species of octopus from the Indo-Pacific region known for its disguising abilities, Wu and his team proposed the idea of mimic computing back in 2008.
After producing the world's first mimic computer prototype in 2013, CMD passed the online test carried out by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2018.
The mimic defense system features an ever-changing software environment, which makes conventional hacker attacks difficult to locate a target. Here, the system they proposed is expected to change existing "ex post facto defense" pattern in cybersecurity, that according Wu.
Chinese scientists welcome the global industry players to co-develop the system and build a community of shared future in cyberspace together, Wu further noted.
Due to the 'COVID-19' coronavirus pandemic, this third "Qiangwang" International Elite Challenge on Cyber Mimic Defense contest was held online. It managed to attract at least 460,000 viewers during the period.
The team that won in this 2020 event managed to withstood way more attacks that at the first event, which was held in 2018.
At the time, the winning team thwarted only 500,000 hack attacks.
