Microsoft Tablet PC

In 1999, Microsoft assigned two well-known experts from Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, to its tablet concept project.

In 2000 Microsoft coined the term Microsoft Tablet PC for tablet PCs built to Microsoft's specification. The device runs its own tablet enhanced version of Microsoft Windows OS.

Microsoft Tablet PC is first announced in 2001 by Microsoft, for a pen-enabled personal computer, conforming to hardware specifications devised by Microsoft. The hardware was made by Lenovo.

Tablet PCs failed to gain traction and popularity because of many problems: some of which was because it was too heavy and software features designed to support it were not present. And there were not enough applications specific to the platform.
