Project Loon to Australia

17/11/2014

Google continues its effort to bring the rest of the non-connected people to the internet. With its Project Loon, the company tests 20 balloons in western Queensland by partnering with Telstra.

For the trial, Telstra supplies the base stations to communicate with the balloons, and the access to space with radio spectrum. Google's long-term plan is to make a network of balloons to circle the globe on stable and predictable stratospheric winds, providing data service to the two-thirds of the Earth's population who don't have access to a stable internet connection.

The project in Australia follows Loon's attempt in bringing internet after New Zealand and Brazil.
