YouTube was launched by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Out of Hurley's garage in Menlo Park.
In February 2005, YouTube brought free online video hosting and sharing to the masses.
Before the site started its service, video sharing and viewing on the web was slow and often requires external player application or plugins.
The first video on YouTube was uploaded at 8:27PM on Saturday April 23rd, 2005. The video was shot by Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo.
