But the turmoil, and whatever this nation sees didn't stop YourFellowArab from attempting his risky mission: interviewing one of the most notorious gang members in the country.
YourFellowArab, known for his "danger tourism" content, arrived in Haiti with a goal to meet Jimmy Chérizier.
Nicknamed 'Barbecue,' the Haitian gang leader is a former police officer, who then became a warlord.
As the leader of the Revolutionary Forces of the G9 Family and Allies, abbreviated as "G9" or "FRG9", he commands over a dozen Haitian gangs based in Port-au-Prince.
The self-proclaimed leader of an "armed revolution" is considered by many as the most powerful gang leader in Haiti, with a long list of criminal activities under his belt.
When YourFellowArab first announced his attempt to reach Jimmy Chérizier, his decision quickly raised eyebrows.
His fans and critics argued that sensationalizing a gang leader could put him in an unnecessary risk.

It's reported that YourFellowArab and his driver were kidnapped by the infamous 400 Mawozo gang, and that the gang demanded a staggering $600,000 ransom.
Negotiations became a tense public spectacle, with updates shared online. Some reports suggested a partial ransom was paid, but the details remain murky.
But after a harrowing two weeks, YourFellowArab and his driver were released.
