Yahoo! Mail Revamped To Make People 'Rethink' What It Can And Cannot Do

Yahoo! has came from a long way, longer than most modern internet companies.

After experiencing a hard time competing against Google and practically everyone else, Yahoo! had also experienced major data breaches, affecting billions of its users. This resulted in a lot of Yahoo! users in closing their accounts.

The incidents made the company ran into troubles with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) and others. To help it out, in October 2019, Yahoo! said that it wants to compensate those who were affected by the breaches by giving them money.

Among a few that helped Yahoo! from disappearing, was its stake at Alibaba. This partial ownership was considered a curse, since it gave problems when the value of the company had nothing to do with the things the company actually did.

This was before the stake was sold off after the creation of Altaba.

With its endless troubles, Yahoo! isn't stopping its attempt to regain its foothold in the industry. Yahoo! has tried that multiple times, including by selling itself to Verizon.

Then in 2016, it tried to regain good graces when it revamped its homepage and mobile apps. The revamp was meant to make Yahoo! "more personalized and social".

Yahoo! then redesigned its Yahoo! Mail interface to make it "cleaner and more minimal", and gave users the ability to customize their inboxes with themes. Yahoo! Mail also introduced more streamlined navigation experience, where people can access their documents, photos, among others.

Another major update in 2018, introduced better performance, themes functionalities and more.

In other words, Yahoo! is continuously improving. After all, it was one of the pioneers on the internet. Having earned that title in the past, Yahoo! isn't giving up without a fight. Futile is not in its dictionary.

Rethink Yahoo! Mail

Then it was in late September 2019, that Yahoo! once again announced a major upgrade to its Yahoo! Mail service.

The redesign introduces a new approach towards organizing mail clutter that groups messages into categories like Deals, Travels, Attachments and Subscriptions. For mobile users, Yahoo! Mail has been redesigned to support one-hand use that is ideal for large smartphone screens.

Yahoo! Mail also introduces the ability to easily unsubscribe from any newsletter, with just a single tap. This is convenient, considering that many online services can bombard users with unwanted emails.

There is also the ability for users to track their packages from the top of their inbox. There is also more colorful layout, high contrast themes, dynamic text resizing, screen reader support, and other features to allow assistive technology users to navigate with less effort.

And to entice new users, or at least make existing users happy, they can also add their Gmail, Outlook, or AOL account to Yahoo! Mail to "keep everything in one place".

The improved app also allows users to view grocery discounts based on their respective loyalty cards.

In other words, Yahoo! sets Yahoo! Mail to "reimagine the inbox of the future". With the update, Yahoo! wants people to "rethink email" about its email service.

"We hope you enjoy the new Yahoo Mail," said Verizon on its press release web page.

"If you don’t have a Yahoo Mail account, you can log in with your other email accounts and still take advantage of the app’s features."
