On Apple Devices, Shazam Can 'Identify Songs In Apps Like TikTok, Instagram, And YouTube'

There are too many songs out there, and in many cases, that awesome tune cannot be heard again, unless its recognized.

Thanks to apps like Shazam, identifying songs is as easy as opening up the app, and let it "listen" to the song. And because of its deep integration with iOS, thanks to Apple's acquisition of Shazam, anyone who uses an Apple mobile device can pin the app to their Control Center, and fire it up as soon as a good song is heard.

And this time, Shazam is pampering users even more.

In the time when social media is a norm, is a 'must' to many people around the globe, Apple has updated its Shazam music recognition app to allow it to recognize and identify songs that are playing in third-party apps.

According to Shazam on its Apple App Store page:

"You can now identify songs in apps like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Simply open Shazam, tap the blue button, and switch back to the app you were using."

The Shazam app can do this because it's integration allows it to use iPhone's microphone to hear the song, and it is able to listen while the other app is in use.

Let the app work for a second or more, and the song shall be identified, and swapping back to Shazam will show the song name and information.

The update allows users to identify fasters, and a lot simpler than using the built-in Song Recognition feature in the ‌Control Center to identify a song.

Whereas using the Song Recognition, users have to open up an app like YouTube, play a song, swipe into Control Center, and tap the Song Recognition icon to determine what's playing, with the update, users are no longer required to exit out the YouTube app.

Once a song is identified, it shows up as a notification, or in the Dynamic Island.

Users can simply tap on the notification to get into the Shazam app, and get more information about the song.

It's worth noting that identifying a song with Shazam automatically adds it to a Shazam playlist in Apple Music, so you can listen to it in full at a later time.

For those who don't have ‌Apple Music‌, the Shazam app also keeps track of recent Shazams.

Another handy feature is that the update also allows users to enable the Auto Shazam feature so the app is listening and identifying songs as users scroll through apps like TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube.

To turn on the Auto Shazam feature, users can do so by simply press and hold the Shazam button, and a message that says "Auto Shazam is on" will pop up.

Since Apple bought Shazam, it has been a major success for the Cupertino giant.

According to its report, it has reached more than one billion songs recognized using the Music Recognition feature from the Control Center in iOS. It has also processed more than one billion song matches per month.

It's also worth noting that Shazam is also available on Android. But given that it's Apple's, Shazam is better-built for iOS, and that on Android, users have to explicitly give it permission to listen to the audio from other apps.
