From Desktop To Mobile, Brave Software Brings Its AI Browser Assistant 'Leo' To Android

The AI field was kind of boring and dull, with ripples that barely sent disruption beyond its realms.

But since OpenAI's introduction of ChatGPT, the world was quickly in awed. Tech companies began competing in an arms race that sooner than later, the technology can seemingly decimate those that didn't jump into the bandwagon and piggyback the trend.

Brave Software is the creator of Brave, the privacy-focused browser.

Back in November 2023, it introduced an AI assistant called 'Leo' in the Brave web browser for desktops.

This time, the company is rolling out Leo to the Brave web browser for Android.

Just like pretty much all other generative AI products, Brave's Leo can perform many tasks, including answering to users' questions, summarizing web pages and videos, translating pages, generating long-form written content, creating transcriptions of audio and video content, and even writing code.

To make this happen, Leo uses the Mixtral 8x7B large language model (LLM). This allows users to use the AI assistant in other languages, including English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

Users can switch and use Claude Instant and Llama 2 13B if that’s what they like.

But Leo defaults to Mixtral, because according to Brave Software, Mixtral 8x7B "currently outperforms ChatGPT 3.5, Claude Instant, Llama 2, and many others.

Mixtral also shows improvements in reducing hallucinations and biases, according to the BBQ benchmark.

And because Brave creates privacy-focused products, users can use Leo without signing in or logging in, and that it doesn’t record chats either.

"With Leo on Android, you can maximize productivity as you move between home, office, and anywhere else you go. All with the same privacy and security guarantees of the Brave browser. With Brave Leo, there’s no login or signup required—you just open your browser and chat. Privately," said Brave Software in a dedicated web page.

Users can also use Leo for free.

But for those who wish to use Leo to its full capacity, Brave Software also offers a paid version of the service, called Leo Premium, which costs $14.99 a month.

Leo Premium offers better speed and higher rate limits.

According to the company, it has started rolling out Leo in phases with version 1.63 of the Brave web browser.

These features, embedded right into the browser, should could come very handy for most people.

In all, Leo on Brave on Android should significantly enhance the experience of using the browser on mobile.

With generative AI, users can use their own words to make the browser do certain tasks for them, which should save them a lot of time and offering them a lot of convenience when performing those tasks.
