Ever since the very first viral sex tape, the internet has seen tons of others.
One after another, more and more sex tapes have been leaked, intentionally or not.
While some are legit, some remain allegations. And the one that involved Briptu Christy follows a similar pattern.
The case began when Briptu (Police Brigadier 1st class) Christy, whose full name is Christy Triwahyuni Cantika Sugiarto, left her job at her post in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, on November 15th, 2021, without any explanation.
Accused of desertion, she was included in a wanted list on January 31, 2022. She was then found on February 2 in a hotel in the Kemang neighborhood, in the country's capital, Jakarta.
After Christy was flown back to Manado in Central Sulawesi for questioning, the media reported that she was hiding because of an alleged sex tape that leaked to the internet.

After the news came out, people on social media networks started scrambling to find the footage, and made 'Briptu Christy' a trending topic in multiple platforms, particularly in Indonesia.
Besides the #BriptuChristy hashtag that went viral, others include #polwancantikvideoasli, #PolwanCantik, #viralmiripbriptuchristylink and #miripbriptuchristy.
Christy, born in December 1996, is the wife of Reynaldy Kamae, also a Police Brigadier 1st class.
He responded to inquiries, hoping to shine some light into the situation.
He said that the virally immoral video clip is a hoax.
Reynaldy said that the woman inside the alleged sex tape is not her.
"I have watched the video that people are talking about [...] it’s not my wife," he said.
" [...] the leaked immoral clip is not her, and we’ll surely ask to prosecute the media that circulate the fake news.”
He added that he and his family are taking legal action against against the spreader of this fake news, also because the fake news about his wife shames the state police.
“ [...] we are looking for those concerned if all relatives ask to sue because there is defamation involved.”
According to Reynaldy, his wife is a person who can easily be distressed.
"She grew up in a broken home," he said of his wife, saying that Christy has the tendencies of committing suicide.

He added that her family know that Christy didn't show up at work for days, as Christy has informed them through the messaging app WhatsApp, but didn't know the reason.
Reynaldy only revealed that his wife said that she needed some time out, in which he thought was due to the stress of working.
"Our family remain in silence not because we're guilty. There will be the time for the truth, even through the immoral news destroy the good name of our nephew," said Christy's aunt, Renny Sugiarto.
While many denied the sex tape allegation, more questions arise.
"My question is why she went into hiding, fled, and then became a wanted person. I think this is a big problem. This may involve other officers who are related to her," said Indonesian Police Watch executive Sugeng Teguh Santoso.
Because of this, Christy may face dishonorable discharge.
It's worth noting that Briptu Christy was relatively unknown to the mass media before this incident.
It's kind of out of the ordinary for an alleged sex tape to be this viral and exaggerated. It's rare to find a similar case from an a non-celebrity to catch so much public attention that most major publications in Indonesia are reporting it.
Reports suggest that someone of a higher authority, or rank, might be behind it.
