Fortnite is an online video game developed by Epic Games and released in 2017.
Having received numerous awards since its inception, the game's mobile battle royale has reached over $1 billion in lifetime player spending across iOS and Google Play, according to a report by Sensor Tower.
This achievement is a major milestone for the game, which follows both Fortnite’s launch on Google Play in April, and the earlier in-game Astronomical concert featuring Travis Scott, which took place from April 23 to 25.
All these factors played a role in increasing spending to $44.3 million in April, up 90% from March and 25.3% year-over-year.
What this means, Sensor Tower's estimates do not account for user spending in the game through Epic's launcher.
In other words, Fortnite has crossed the $1 billion in spending threshold on the App Store alone, even without the months-worth of spending that's taken place on Google Play, which estimated to be around $937,000.

Fortnite experienced an increase in overall game time due to novel 'COVID-19' coronavirus pandemic, which urges people to stay at home.
The top source of revenue came from users in the U.S., which according to Sensor Tower, accounted for $632.2 million, or approximately 63% of total spend. UK came second on its list with $38.2 million, or 3.8%, Switzerland in third place with $36.3 million, or 3.6%.
Up until the announcement, Fortnite has generated more than 129 million downloads on the App Store and Google Play.
The U.S. ranked the first for downloads, with over 51 million unique installs, or 39.6% of the total. This is followed by UK at second spot, with more than 8 million downloads, or 6.3%, and France at third place with 5.7 million installs, or 4.4%.
In total, the average revenue Epic received per user download, stands at approximately $7.70.

In general, Fortnite’s revenues on mobile are actually declining since its early highs.
But Epic managed to keep the traction of the game's battle royale, as it remains one of the world’s top performers on mobile.
For this reason, Epic succeeded in putting Fortnite as one of the most notable games in the mobile gaming landscape.
It should be noted that Fortnite's success can be traced back to a number of other factors, too.
From its casual approach, fun and relaxing to play, constant updates, as well as various gimmicks and cosmetics that keep players coming back for more.
And not to forget its cross-platform capabilities, having made available on Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS and Android.
While Fortnite isn't a difficult game to learn, it's still considered a difficult game to master.
