'AI Is Never The Answer. AI Is The Tool.' It Only Amplifies Existing Human Skills

Business is business, and the only way to thrive is to understand how to maintain a competitive edge. And in the world where computers are essential, there is nothing that AI won't impact.

Mark Cuban is a famous businessman, and also one of the main "sharks" in the realit television series Shark Tank. The seasoned entrepreneur always has his ears close to the ground, and he definitely knows more than just one of two about the Large Language Models trend.

He stated that AI can help business owners expand their companies by simplifying research, providing answers, and handling operational tasks.

But according to him, what AIs do best is only amplify existing human skills, not create.

Mark Cuban is also known as one of the biggest "sharks" in the reality television series Shark Tank.

During the South by Southwest Conference and Festival (SXSW), he said that:

"AI is never the answer. AI is the tool. Whatever skills you have, you can use AI to amplify them."

For example, AI can assist with research, email drafting, sales calls, and helping entrepreneurs identify gaps in their knowledge.

While AI can make mistakes, humans are not immune to errors either.

The mentor stated that anyone aspiring to become an entrepreneur and start a business can begin with just a laptop and an internet connection.

Today, anyone can embark on their business journey with AI as a valuable support tool—a stark contrast to the past when households often shared a single computer.

"It’s so much easier to start."

"It went from — way, way back in the day — $5,000 for a PC […] to if you just have a laptop and a connection to the internet, you can start anything."

"Now, you have a mentor, whether you use Perplexity, Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini — it doesn’t matter. You have experts."

Cuban, who made it to Guinness World Records for purchasing a private jet through the internet in 1999, said that AI can never replace creative fields, despite they're becoming increasingly capable in art and writing.

"A lot of creative people think, well, AI is gonna write all the scripts," Cuban said. "AI doesn’t know a good story from a bad story. You need to be creative. AI can do the video — trust me, I can create AI-generated videos. They’re still gonna suck."

"Whatever skills you have, AI can amplify them. But not using it means somebody else is going to be amplifying their skills — and that could be the difference between getting ahead of you or not," Cuban said.

While Cuban urges anyone to study and learn how these LLM work and how to work with them, he cautioned about not to overly rely on the technology.
