The company’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, said that Microsoft’s approach to AI focuses on safety, trust and emotional intelligence, and not on blurring the boundaries between humans and machines.

As tech companies race to dominate the next wave of AI-powered computing, Microsoft’s flagship product, Copilot, serves 100 million monthly users across Microsoft’s platforms.
While the number is big, it's actually quite modest compared to some competitors, especially OpenAI, which boasts many times that.
However, Suleyman emphasized that he has no intention of steering Microsoft down the same path as Sam Altman’s ChatGPT, with its new openness toward erotica, or Elon Musk’s xAI Grok, which leans into flirtatious, adult-oriented "AI companion" experiences and NSFW conversations.
This is because Suleyman believes Microsoft's ethical, safety-first model can triumph in the long term. He clarified this on his blog post on his website:
He emphasized that Microsoft’s goal is to create helpful tools, not companions that simulate intimacy.
Microsoft unveiled new Copilot features that include the ability to revisit past chats, participate in group conversations, answer health-related questions more accurately, and even respond in an optional "real talk" tone. Still, the company remains firm on one rule: nothing sexual is allowed.
He added that:
Suleyman reaffirmed that even adult users will not find flirtatious or explicit content within Copilot. And also unlike some AI rivals, Microsoft does not plan to introduce a "young user" mode, as Suleyman insists the chatbot’s existing design already prioritizes safety.

This decision comes at a moment of intense scrutiny.

Based on facts and the internet's trend, anything that is adult, will always have an audience. In other words, erotic AI might sell.
But according to Microsoft’s leadership, it's not the best way to go. Not business-wise, but ethically.
