Steve Buscemi is an American actor from Brooklyn, New York. His face was slashed and scarred in a bar fight in 2001 while shooting the film Domestic Disturbance in North Carolina, leading to his characteristic facial appearance.
This was put to a humor on the internet when Something Awful posted a Photoshop Friday contest titled "Celebrity Match Game". One of the photos was a photo of Steve Buscemi combined with the pop star Justin Bieber.
The photos was then posted to Reddit where it began its popularity. Titled "Justin Bieber with Steve Buscemi Eyes", the photo received more than 11,000 up votes and more than 500 comments prior to being achieved.
Later that same month, a Tumblr blog named "Chicks With Steve Buscemeyes" was created. It highlighted images of female celebrities with their eyes edited with Steve Buscemi's.
As Buscemi's eyes were edited to more people's faces, the meme started to take on the news.
In 2014, Steve Buscemi was at the Late Night Monday when Seth Mayers asked him about how he sees his photos on some Disney princesses. While to some people, the meme is funny, but to Buscemi, he didn't see it as funny as everyone else does.
He said that "it makes those characters a little bit hotter, don't you think?"
