YouTube channel should retain their name for eternity, in a way that websites should. That, was at least what Google had in mind.

Name changes can be necessary, but for some reasons, Google made it difficult for YouTube channel owner to rename their channel, by forcing them to alter their Google account name and photo, in order for the changes to happen. This was considered annoying, as if Google was trying to prevent users from ever doing it.

But this time, Google is having a change of heart.

Google that owns YouTube, is making it extremely easy for creators to change the name of their channel.

Best of all, they don't have to change anything from their Google account.

According to Google on its support page, content creators on YouTube You can make changes to their channel name and description by:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left menu, select Customization and then Basic info.
  3. Click Edit to update your channel name.
  4. Enter your new channel description.
  5. Click Publish.

It should be noted though, that while changing a channel name does not change users' Google Account's name, it "will make your verification badge go away."

In other words, while Google is making it easy for YouTube channel owners to change their channel's name, the downside is that, the channel can lose its verified status.

By renaming a channel, the owner must to through the trouble of being verified again.

But if channel owners don't really care about that verified status, the change should be a welcome feature that is long overdue.
