Instagram 'Makes People Depressed' While Twitter 'Makes People Angry'

No platform is created equal, and on the web, there are plenty of platforms. This is why many of them don't really compete for the same audience.

And Twitter's leader Elon Musk, knows that very well.

The serial entrepreneur, and the once-was-the-richest-man-on-Earth, is an avid social media user. But that is only on Twitter, where he frequently speaks and trolls around. In other platforms, not so much.

In a jab towards competitors, following his controversial acquisition of Twitter, Musk seemed to say that no platform is perfect.

In a tweet he said that:

"Instagram makes people depressed and Twitter makes people angry. Which is better?"

Musk literally puts Twitter on fire after saying that.

But what Musk wanted, was indirectly asking for feedback regarding which platforms Twitter users like the most.

In other words, Musk asked on Twitter, which is better between Twitter and Instagram.

Since Instagram is way larger than Twitter, it's safe to say that many Twitter users are also Instagram users.

Most Twitter users were, as might seem obvious owing to where the conversation was all happening, most comments gravitate towards Twitter being the better social media platform.

Based on the many Twitter users who commented, Instagram is where people showcase a perfect life that does not exist, whereas Twitter had no such compulsion.

And responding to those who commented to his tweet, Musk said that he does "laugh a lot on Twitter."

"Looking at the comments, this social network might be trending positively towards positivity. We will try to make that more the case."

Studies suggest that depression among teenagers and young adults has gotten more common since the social media becomes popular.

While it's difficult to say for sure that social media causes depression, many social media users have indeed shown an increase in FOMO (fear of missing out) and feelings of inadequacy, dissatisfaction, and isolation. In turn, these feelings can negatively affect mood and worsen symptoms of depression, that can also include anxiety, and stress.

In one occasion during The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2018, Musk said that one of the issues with social media is that "people look like they have a much better life than they really do."

Musk said on the podcast that Instagram can make people seem better-looking and happier "than they really are." He added that seeing attractive and happy people on social media can make people think, "I'm not that good looking and I'm not that happy. So I must suck."

But this time, Musk paid a lot to acquire Twitter, and he is trying to make it profitable.

As the Chief Twit of Twitter, Musk has been implementing numerous changes to the microblogging site, including laying off employees, tweaks in paid verification, account reinstatement, selling assets, and more.

The billionaire scrambled very quickly following his $44 billion deal to acquire the platform.

Since taking control of Twitter, Musk, an active Twitter user, has become even more active.

Through his official Twitter handle, Musk often tweet whatever he has in his mind, as well as takes various suggestions from the users.

One of which, is asking whether people whether he step down from being the CEO of Twitter, which apparently many people said "yes."
