'Surge In Streams' Of Celine Dion's Music After Her Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony Performance

Celine Dion, a diva that needs no introduction in the music industry.

The remarkable artist with an extraordinary talent has a journey that started from a humble beginnings, before she become ones of the biggest and most beloved vocalists globally.

From My Heart Will Go On, the iconic theme from the 1997 film Titanic that has a ballad that captured hearts worldwide for decades, to Because You Loved Me, a powerful love song that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 1001, The Power of Love, which is yet another chart-topper, It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, the emotional ballad, the I Drove All Night, and lots more, Dion is often referred to as the "Queen of Power Ballads".

Noted for her powerful and technically skilled vocals, the Canadian singer has a long list of accolades and achievements, with artistry and legacy that are incomparable to most, if not all of her peers.

And here, after years being absent, Dion finally hits the stage once more.

On 26 July, Dion sang Hymne à l’amour from the Eiffel Tower, during the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

With the media calling her return as "undaunted, beatific return", with "the gusto of someone who, by her own admission, longs to resume touring more than her fans," Dion's appearance was her first public performance in four years.

It all began way back in January of 2022, when Dion canceled her North American tour dates because of experiencing severe muscle spasms. Then, on December that year, she announced she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disease.

She said the disease affected every aspect of her life, making it difficult to walk, and affected her vocal cords.

Because of this, she had to cancel all of her tours.

While she did manage to make some appearances, Dion never sing in public since she claimed to have the disease.

Now that she's back on stage, her long-awaited return has certainly entertained many people who know her what she is.

"I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities," the singer wrote Friday on X.

"Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance."

Also, her return also translates to a significant boost in people streaming her music.

According to Spotify’s Daniel Ek on the social media platform X, there was a "surge in streams of @celinedion’s music overall" on the platform, following the singer taking the stage during the highly watched event.

Her music experienced a 35% increase in streams globally, according to Ek.

In the Olympic host country of France, her streams rose a staggering 65%.

The song L’Hymne à l’Amour by the late French singer Édith Piaf, which Dion performed, "saw a massive 320% increase in streams on July 27," the day after the opening ceremony, the Spotify CEO said.

Ek’s report of Dion’s music getting a post-ceremony boost came as part of a larger thread he posted about "so many people discovering French music on Spotify after some incredible musical performances" at the opening ceremony.

This is Dion's second time performing at the Olympics.

Previously, she sang The Power of the Dream at the 1996 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, at the Centennial Olympic Stadium, Atlanta, United States.
