Social media is open for everyone, allowing users to communicate with one another. In fact, social media platforms are meant for that purpose, and that purpose only.
While billions of interactions happenning every day on the many social media platforms, and many of them come and go unnoticed, some social media posts stand out more than others.
One good example of this, is when an alleged screenshot of a direct message made by Khabib Nurmagomedov to an Indonesian Instagram model quickly catch headlines in Indonesia's social media sphere.
With polar opposite backgrounds and professions, netizens are both astonished and amused.
But others responded to it with disbelief, and even anger, urging a legal action.
It all began when Annette Lauda from Indonesia posted a screenshot on her X account. The image showed Khabib Nurmagomedov sending her a fire emoji, a clear sign of his interest in one of her Instagram photos.
While Annette may be a popular Instagram model with a significant following, Khabib Nurmagomedov is in a league of his own.
He's far from just "any man" that could've just stumbled to her photo.
Nurmagomedov is a Russian former professional mixed martial artist who competed in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
With a background in wrestling, judo, and sambo, Nurmagomedov was the longest-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion ever, having held the title from April 2018 to March 2021.
With 29 wins and no losses, Nurmagomedov, the first Muslim to win a UFC title, retired with an undefeated record.
Nurmagomedov is widely considered to be among the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on June 30, 2022.
So here, a lot of Indonesians netizens who see him sending a private message to Anette, who is just "some model," think that things don't really add up.
Nurmagomedov is a highly prominent and well-known figure. Given his fame and status, many people think that it's very unlikely for him to randomly come across the Instagram photo of an ordinary influencer without any significant reason.
In other words, people are suggesting that Nurmagomedov’s attention is too valuable and selective for him to have interacted with someone without a substantial motive or context. This skepticism reflects the view that his actions and interactions would be more deliberate and less random due to his high profile.
Annette said that the emoji Nurmagomedov sent wasn't an accident but was intentionally sent to her to comment on the photo she shared in her Instagram Stories.
After sending the fire emoji, Nurmagomedov also sent a text message to Annette, according to Annette. However, the message sent by the fighter from Dagestan, Russia, was not revealed.
"It turns out it wasn't 'an accident,'" said Annette.
Annette is no stranger to posing alluringly for the camera.
In her many Instagram posts, she can be seen posing while wearing two-piece bikinis, exposing her tattoos and and revealing quite a lot of skin.
And in the photo Nurmagomedov allegedly liked, shows Annette in a set of black lingerie.
But people don't just believe what the model said, since the conversation she allegedly had with the former UFC champion was not shared.
"Show the unblurred one first. Then people will believe it," wrote one netizen.
"I don't believe it. Maybe there’s another meaning behind that fire emoji," replied another.
"I don't believe that Khabib DM'd her," said another.
Khabib Nurmagomedov's former manager, Ali Abdelaziz, went on a rampage after The Eagle went viral in Indonesia.
Abdelaziz becomes furious after he was informed about the commotion by an Indonesian netizen who inked the viral issue to his social media account.
Abdelaziz reacted angrily to the situation, and also mocked the female influencer who had stirred up "chaos" on X.
"She’s very ugly. She does not make the cut on any list. Disgusting," he said.
Ali Abdelaziz's reaction also became widely discussed by Indonesian netizens. Many netizens urged Abdelaziz to take legal action to teach the influencer a lesson.
It's worth noting that Annette disabled her X account, soon after her post went viral.
It's worth noting that off ring, Nurmagomedov has been the subject of many controversies, including his longstanding affiliation with Chechnya's leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, his alleged affiliations with Russia's oligarchs, and how he allegedly advocated for increased cultural censorship and misogynism.
