To Educate The Cryptocurrency Community, Binance Launched 'Binance Academy'

While blockchain and crytocurrencies have skyrocketed in popularity, not everyone really understand them.

This is why exchange desk Binance wants to introduce them to the basics of cryptocurrency and blockchain with its own education platform called 'Binance Academy' (https://www.binance.vision/).

Featuring a wide array of explainer pieces, and available in 15 different languages, including French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese, people can find information on fundamental concepts like the "history of blockchain" and mining.

First introduced in May 2018, and launched in beta on August, Binance Academy boasts a collection of contents summing up to around 500 articles for educational purposes.

According to Ted Lin, Binance's Chief Growth Officer:

"Education is the integral pillar to proliferating crypto and blockchain usage. With Binance Academy, our goal is to provide an entirely neutral platform with quality, unbiased, educational information."

Divided into four broad categories: Blockchain, Economy, Security, and Tutorials. It also has a separate 'Glossary' segment which allows people to quickly understand the most common terms used in the space.

The contents are aimed at giving information that is right and impartial to the cryptocurrency community, as explained by Lin: “Misinformation spreads extremely fast. People are frequently quoting articles that are either incorrect or are misleading."

But overall, the contents the platform is offering seems to only be a good start for newbies in the industry. For seasoned blockchain and cryptocurrency users, those people probably won't see much they didn't already know.

Still, it's a good initiative by Binance.

Binance has also included a page where people can suggest topics for future explainers. What this means, the platform is scaled to grow as blockchain and cryptocurrency trends continue to rise.

The educational platform is in line with other side projects by Binance. Previously, the company launched a $1 billion fund to support the growth of startups in the blockchain industry back in June.

The Binance Academy has technically been set up as a nonprofit. So it's worth noting that such efforts are also intended for marketing strategy. After all, business is business. This way, Binance is hoping that the platform can attract new customers to its cryptocurrency exchange.

And for the record, Binance is hardly the only company seeking to leverage “education” for brand recognition.

Previously, Coinbase has also launched a similar educational platform where people can easily browse and learn about various cryptocurrency assets, as well as investing in them.

Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin and his blockchain startup and incubator project, ConsenSys has also partnered with online education platform Coursera as well as several Oxford professors to create a separate blockchain educational plans of their own.

As for Binance Academy, the platform could shine even more light to the darkened Bitcoin market.

While the prices of cryptocurrencies are still volatile as ever, high risks are often associated with trading and investing on these digital assets. So it's no surprise that exchange services are trying to educate users about the basics of the technology.
