Twitter can be useful from time to time with its ability to surface news coverage, commentary about events and more. And all that with simplicity and without gimmicks. However, how Twitter tailors its feed largely depends on the people you are following.
The platform has always hosted lots of worthy tweets. However, it has difficulties in bringing those massive information collection to users. In 2015, Twitter had a "Discover" tab that polarized an attempt to surface popular tweets. Then Twitter replaced it with "while you were away" recap boxes and the addition of editorial descriptions to many trends.
As its next move to make things easier for users to discover new contents, Twitter is consolidating its search and discovery features, trending hashtags, and featured live videos all in the same place.
That by replacing its Moments tab with in a new "Explore" tab on its mobile toolbar.
"Until today, you had to go to a few different places to find each of these experiences. As part of our continued efforts to make it easier to see what’s happening, we’re bringing all these together," said Twitter in its blog post on January 26th, 2017.
The feature that has been tested back in October 2016, is meant to help users in finding posts beyond the people they follow. "Nothing is going away," said the company in a blog post. "We're just making it easier to find what you want."

The Explore tab is just another attempt to bring things up that otherwise won't be seen.
The move that represents an effort to bring Twitter's distant content discovery efforts together in a single tab, is a useful addition. Twitter hopes can make its platform a little friendlier to users, as well as helping them to engage in more people and knowing who to follow.
It's a design that is based on how Twitter users are actually using the social media. However, it can certainly be improved.
Rather than mimicking other social media network, like Instagram, that is having a similar feature, Twitter thrives because of its uniqueness.
The reason is because most people on Twitter aren't using Twitter to explore it - they're just there to see what's up and to catch on the news. While Twitter is still one of the most famous social media networks, it's way of delivering contents differ from most others in the competition.
