Elon Musk Two-Hour Discussion With Donald Trump On X: Politics That Goes DDoS

Two powerful men in their respective fields, discussing about several topics. That moment should catch headlines.

This time, those men aren't just some 'ordinary' powerful men.

On August 13, 2024, one of the world's richest man in the world, the serial entrepreneur Elon Musk was live on his platform X, with former U.S. President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in a much-trailed interview.

In what was said to be a "no limits" conversation between the two men, started more than half an hour late.

With many listeners unable to listen it live, it was kind of embarrassing.

Elon Musk, Donald Trump.
One is Elon Musk, a serial entrepreneur with a global influence, and another is Donald Trump, a former U.S. President willing to become a President again.

Donald Trump was one of the most controversial figure on social media, and this was the reason why he got kicked out of Twitter.

Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter, before renaming it to X, he has been trying to entice Trump to return to the platform.

But Trump never really returned to X, and has been true to his words on relying on Truth Social, his own social media platform, to get his words out to his fans and followers.

Even when his permanent ban was lifted, Trump was content.

But as the U.S. election nears, and knowing that Musk had become his supporter in this election, Trump agrees to return.

He even made several posts to highlight his return, and to built up the anticipation towards his interview with Musk.

The interview started poorly, with a 45-minute delay and rolling technical issues.

Regardless, the men put their heads on the table, in what is supposed their views on the world and what's in it.

During their conversation, Trump discussed a range of topics, including his recent assassination attempt.

Musk called it an "inspiring" to hear how Trump yelled "fight!" three times to the audience, right after being hit by a bullet to the ear.

"If I had not turned my head, I would not be talking to you right now — as much as I like you," adding that he becomes a "more of a believer" in God because of surviving the attack.

He also spoke about immigration policies, and his views on climate change.

Donald Trump.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump chatted with Musk from his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida.

Trump also criticized President Biden, and went vocal about his disapproval of Biden’s performance, particularly focusing on economic and foreign policies.

Trump talked about the development of a new missile defense system, highlighting its importance for national security.

The technical difficulties that occurred during the live chat, is said to be caused by hackers.

A massive DDoS attack was launched during interview, which apparently managed to cripple X's resources, rendering the interview inaccessible to a lot of people.

"We tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier today," Musk explained this in a post.

But what it may seem, X couldn't handle when things went out of hands.

This is predicted, knowing how huge the influence of the two men.

Musk has emerged as a major voice in U.S. politics, but his prominence is making the public to accuse him of turning X into a megaphone for right-wing conspiracy theories.

At this time, Musk is one of the Democrats' fiercest critics, leveraging his 194 million-strong following on X to stop liberalists from boosting diversity and inclusion, or into what he calls the "woke mind virus."

Musk is also known for frequently spreads far-right misinformation about undocumented immigrants and voter fraud.

This definition of Musk, at least at this time, fits Trump, who is often associated with the far-right or right-wing populism.

At this time, Trump is struggling to pivot in the face of surging enthusiasm and strong polls for Kamala Harris since she took over from Biden as the Democratic candidate.

This is what conversation was intended to be from the start.

It's meant to help reinvigorate Trump's stuttering campaign, created to widen his campaign to reach a broader audience.

Because there was a lot of opposition to what Trump had to say, Musk explained that hundreds of gigabytes per second of data was bombarding X's servers.

"Given the prominence of this conversation, there was of course a 100% probability of DDOS attacks. We also had some unforced errors ourselves," he said, before praising his X team for fending off the attacks.

"All’s well that ends well," he said.
