Bali in Indonesia is a place where many have referred it to as the "Island of the Gods."
From its spectacular scenery, breathtaking beaches, tasty cuisine, to the friendly locals, Bali has become one the world's most famous getaways.
While Bali is considered a location in Indonesia, where most people are Muslims, Bali is a place where the majority of people there are non-Muslims, and that stray and pet dogs in the island are a lot more common than cats.
In a viral video, a heartbreaking incident showed how a woman dragged her own pet dog as she drove her motorcycle on the road in Bali.
The clip has since gone viral, and that it has sparked the internet's anger.
The video in question, was recorded, and uploaded to Instagram on May 9, by a man who happened to be driving his motorcycle behind the woman.
In the video, a dog is seen tied by the neck, and was dragged along the narrow road.
While the woman dragged the dog on the left-hand side of the motorcycle to ensure that the dog isn't injured by the heat from the exhaust, the pet dog, which isn't particularly big, can be seen struggling to keep up with the speed of the motorcycle.
Nang Bryan, the man who recorded the incident, shouted at the woman, and managed to make her stop.
According to Nang, the incident happened around 2 p.m. that day, in front of a school on Ciung Wanara Road in Bali's capital, Denpasar.
"When it happened I [took out my phone to] record […] because I did not have the stomach I stopped recording," he said.
The woman reportedly made an excuse, saying she did what she did because the dog wouldn't hop onto the motorcycle. But after Nang scolded her, and that the dog was already injured, the woman eventually brought the unfortunate dog on the motorcycle.
According to Nang, the dog had its paws bleeding as they scrape the ground.
However, Nang was on his way to pick up his children, that he was unable to deal with the woman for too long, and had to let her drove of.
Nang said that he didn't report the incident to the police.
However, after his post went viral, an animal welfare group contacted him, he said.
Separately, Christian Joshua Pale, the founder and leader of Animals Hope Shelter Indonesia (AHS for Indonesia), said that his organization has pocketed the identity of the woman based on the motorcycle's plate number, and that he planned to report her to the police.
Under Indonesian law, anyone how abuses an animal may face nine months in prison if proven guilty.
Christian said the incident needs to serve as an example to other Indonesians about the country’s law against animal abuse.
The police have since confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
“We are investigating the vehicle owner,” said Bali Police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto.
This incident, where a motorcyclist dragged a dog, isn't the first case of this kind in Bali.
Back in January 2023, two locals were recorded by a passerby dragging a dog with their motorcycle.
The video also went viral on Instagram.
In the clip that has also angered many netizens, shows how two locals are seen dragging a dog with their motorcycle.
In the video, two men are seen dragging the dog that was tied with a rope to their motorbike on the Ngurah Rai Bypass Road.
After the clip went viral and attracted public outrage, the Bali Police launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators.
According to reports by Bali Police Special Crimes Unit Chief Nanang Pri Hasmoko, the two people, a father and a son, found a dead dog at a trash site near the the family’s house.
The police that investigated it believed that the dog was already dead for at least two days when it was discovered by the pair.
The father and son said that due to the condition of the carcass, they did not dare to touch the dead dog, and instead, they dragged it to the nearest river so they could dispose of it.
They were remorseful over the incident, and apologized.
Later, it was reported that neither of the two were criminally charged.
