Meta AI Gets Major Updates, And That It's 'Now Multilingual, More Creative And Smarter'

Thanks to the viral sensation of OpenAI's talkative chatbot, it's now an arms race of generative AIs.

When OpenAI introduced ChatGPT as a AI chatbot tool, Meta responded with LLaMA, and later, with LLaMA 2, and the LLaMA 3.

This time, Meta announces LLaMA 3.1.

Alongside that, Meta also unveiled several updates to Meta AI, its personal digital assistant available across Meta services like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.

First, in an announcement, Meta said that it's Meta AI's availability has expanded to 22 countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Cameroon.

It now supports additional languages: French, German, Hindi, Hindi-Romanized Script, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Next, is the 'Imagine Me' feature, which rolling out in beta to users in the U.S..

What it does, is allowing users to imagine themselves creating images based on their own photos, using prompts like "imagine me surfing," or "imagine me on a beach vacation."

This feature uses Meta AI's "new state-of-the-art personalization model" to process images of what users have given it access to, and recreate it based on users' prompt.

To use this feature, users can simply type "Imagine me" in their Meta AI chat to get started.

From there, users can share the images with others.

To showcase what this feature can do, founder and CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, has showcased it in a post on Threads.

Meta AI has also enables users to effortlessly edit photos with the AI capabilities, easily adding or removing objects and making modifications.

"You could say 'Imagine a cat snorkeling in a goldfish bowl' and then decide you want it to be a corgi. So you’d simply write 'Change the cat to a corgi' to adjust the image," said Meta.

Meta plans to add an 'Edit with AI' button to streamline photo editing with the AI.

Meta has also added a way to allow users to share their Meta AI-made images to Facebook.

"We’re starting to roll out the ability for you to create it right within feed, stories, comments and messages across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp — anywhere Meta AI is available in English starting this week. And soon you’ll be able to do this in more places across our apps and in more languages as well," explained Meta.

And lastly, Meta AI has been updated to be able to tap into LLaMA 405B

What this means, users have the option to use the company's "largest and most advanced open-source model," which has improved reasoning capabilities.

This allows Meta AI to be able to understand and answer users' more complex questions, especially on the topics of math and coding.

And lastly, Meta AI can also be used on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, meaning that the company is also releasing the AI to virtual reality.

"Meta AI will replace the current Voice Commands on Quest, allowing you to control your headset hands-free, get answers to questions, stay up to date with real-time information, check the weather and more. You can also use Meta AI with Vision in Passthrough to ask questions about things you see in your physical surroundings," said Meta.
