The search giant Google has added a new method for expanding search results by showing a carousel across the top.
Previously, Google has introduced the carousel interface for local packs. Then the company introduced the carousels within a single local card or result after testing them in three different positions. This include how Google is using them to show advanced recipes search.
The card carousels appear similar to AMP carousels, but they can appear on both desktop and mobile. The horizontal scrollable set of cards can show more results based on a search query. However, they don't filter within existing search. Instead, they clicking or tapping on them will take users a a new search.
For example, if users are searching for "kids clothing", Google will show the carousel slider as seen below:

The carousels that are only limited to generic queries, can show a map, followed by a normal snippet, then the location and then the phone number.
While the carousels aren't the prettiest design that came out of Google, it allows users to filter down their search results and/or expand them. This has the potential to increase engagement as well as improving experience in using the search engine.
