Guinness World Records: 1 Million Instagram Followers In Less Than 6 Hours

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke a record with their Instagram account.

The couple, who joined the photo-sharing platform with the @sussexroyal handle on April 2, are the fastest to reach 1 million followers.

It took the account 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Guinness World Record Book confirmed this as the quickest for such attempt.

Meghan and Harry took the title from K-Pop star Kang Daniel, who reached the 1 million follower in 11 hours and 36 minutes in January. And before Daniel, the title was held by Pope Francis, who gained 1 million followers in 12 hours in 2016.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in creating a joint Instagram account was to delight of royal fans.

It was one of the moves the couple made towards independence after announcing their decision to split households from Prince William and Kate Middleton in March.

"Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues."

"We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal."

The account's posts include images of the royal couple together, as well as images of causes the two are passionate about, including conservation and the British Armed Forces.

Meghan Markle had public personal accounts prior to becoming a Duchess, and was also considered an influencer.

Since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017, the Duchess of Sussex has influenced women all over the world with her style. But with her royal status, she was forced to turn dark on social media.

Meghan who is known to have twisted some royal rules, and here, she is changing things again slightly.

Previously, Harry and Meghan were only connected with the public through Kensington Palace's official social media accounts, which shares updates equally between Harry, Markle, William, and Middleton.

And shortly after Meghan and Harry's Instagram account was created, the Kensington Royal account replaced the Cambridges' display picture from one of the four royals, changing it to another of Kate, William, George, Charlotte and Louis.

What this means, Meghan and Harry aren't on the @KensingtonRoyal account anymore.

The news came about a month after Queen Elizabeth II joined Instagram, by posting from the royal family account for the first time.
