Instagram is about sharing photos and videos.
When there was the time where flaws within pictures weren't that noticeable, now it's time for you to brush up your photo editing skills because Instagram is introducing Zoom, a feature that essentially enables others to get closer intimate look at your pictures.
The new addition allows people to zoom in on photos and videos in their feeds.
To zoom in into a picture, users just need to do a simple pinch gesture. The feature also works well for videos, and they can cover the whole space on your feed, profiles and Explore.
The move is indeed welcomed for Instagram users. Previously, the Facebook-owned app has feeds that stayed on the size as they were on the screen in a static square. The only way for people to inspect a picture was to take a screenshot of the post and zoom in to it outside the photo-sharing platform.
On August 31st, Instagram said that the feature is coming to Apple's iOS.
"Starting today, you can pinch to zoom on photos and videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore," said the caption on a video showing how to zoom. "Dive into an adorable puppy's smile or into every detail of your friend's new shirt."
Zooming into pictures is probably one of the most basic feature mobile devices can do. And by having the ability to zoom in to pictures, Instagram is leveraging the use.
With one of the most expected feature introduced, Instagram can now meet more serious photographers rather than becoming a social media for sharing with filters as aesthetics.
However, Instagram still won't allow users to rotate their mobile devices to see images in landscape. As for now, users can only zoom in on photos. With smartphones having QHD and 4K displays, Instagram needs to do a lot of work before implementing the landscape-viewing ability.
But even so, Instagram that has been more about sharing moments than being a pure aesthetic and into technical details, is giving more appreciation regarding photos and how they should feel.
The news comes after Instagram introduced Stories, a clone of Snapchat that allows people to post photos and videos to a stream before disappearing after 24 hours; Event channels which is also similar to Snapchat's.
In line with getting more user engagement and revenue, Instagram that is having a new designed logo, is aiming forward fast; not only by introducing big things, but also small changes that really matter.
