The Ballerina Twins From 'Atomic Heart' Attract Thirst Comments, Memes, And Political Debates

24/02/2023

There are only a few things in this world that can cross borders of languages and customs without speaking a word. Among those few, include games.

It has been for decades, that video games managed to captivate the world's audience, regardless of their gender, age or nationality. Games can entice them to communities populated by fans and hobbyists. And as video games exponentially increased in accessibility and popularity over time, they are also having increased influence in the overall pop culture.

Atomic Heart is a a first-person shooter video game with role-playing game customization and stealth elements.

Even though the game has generated quite a lot of hype and enthusiasm ahead of its release, the game also gained a lot criticisms and questions.

And from there, things apparently get political as well.

Atomic Heart

For starters, the developer of the game, Mundfish, has been accused of harvesting user data, and provide that data to the Russian government.

While Mundfish is a Cyprus-based company, it does have ties to Russia, because the company also has offices in both Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Moreover, Mundfish founder, Robert Bagratuni, is a Russia citizen who studied aerophysics and space science in Moscow.

Gamers were wondering whether Russia was involved with the development of the game, and whether any of its entities or officials have helped fund the game.

It is argued that if the Russians were involved in the development of the game, then there's a chance that purchasing the game would indirectly contribute to Russia’s efforts in the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The allegation was delivered by Alex Bornyakov, Ukraine’s deputy minister of digital transformation, who have asked Sony, Microsoft, and Valve to remove Atomic Heart from Ukraine’s digital stores.

"We also urge limiting the distribution of this game in other countries due to its toxicity, potential data collection of users, and the potential use of money raised from game purchases to conduct a war against Ukraine," said Bornyakov in a statement. "We also want to emphasize that the game developers have not publicly condemned the Putin regime and the bloody war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine."

While Mundfish remained vague over its stance on the war in Ukraine, the developer denied the allegations.

But things didn't stop there, because people also started questioning the game's release date.

This is because the date for the game's release nearly coincides with the first year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The release date also nearly coincides with Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is a holiday observed in Russia, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

Critics also had questioned these, simply because the game features Soviet and Russian military themes.

Atomic Heart is about main protagonist Major Sergey Nechayev (codenamed Agent P-3), a KGB agent living in a world where Russia has developed game-changing Polymer technology, advanced robotic technology, and won World War II in a dystopian alt-reality 1955.

In its response, Mundfish again denied the allegations, and claimed that the company is neutral, and that it "do not comment on politics or religion" and the studio is "is undeniably a pro-peace organization against violence against people".

Then comes the Ballerina Twins, which is a pair of female androids.

The two female android are the game's characters, portrayed as metallic women wearing crown braids.

And here is another controversy: the crown braids in question, clearly resemble the braid crown of Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko is a Ukrainian politician, people's Deputy of Ukraine, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for the fuel and energy complex, Prime Minister of Ukraine from February to September 2005 and from December 2007 to March 2010.

Also known as the leader of the Batkivshchyna political party, she is famous for her hair style that sports a braid crown.

And in the case of Ballerina Twins, things don't stop there.

This is because many gamers started subjecting them to intense robot fetishism, hornyposting, and memes.

After all, the two androids, despite faceless, are tall and slender. They're also portrayed like naked women, thanks to their silver metallic skin that makes them look like they’re wearing a very tight fitting leotard that blends with the rest of their bodies.

What's more, they have retractable claws on four of their five digit fingers on each hand, and a retractable tool that can be used as a spiked heel on each foot.

Simply put, the game’s robotic twin antagonists have that dominating presence that is also intimidating and imposing.

The developer is like asking for it because there's even a scene where one of the twins make what appears to be some sort of a "sexual dance" ritual, before one of them extends what looks like a horn, or appendage, from the star on its forehead, and use it to "penetrate" her twin.

Then, the latter seemingly give "birth" to a tool from its stomach, in which the former is taking it out as if pulling something out of a womb.

The twins’ sex appeal is clearly intended by Mundfish.

This can be seen on each scene the twins appear, that the camera, or the players' view, would either focus on their curves, legs, breasts, and buttocks.

For example, in one of the showdowns against the twins, one of them basically straddles the players' face. The robot spreads its legs, and to the gamer, the robot shows its inner thighs, stretched off to the edges of the screen while it looks down at the player using its faceless face.

Then, there is that scene where the twins lean down to the floor, while doing an unnecessary vertical split, among other moves.

In other words, Mundfish made their very movements, and their looks, exist for no other reason than to sexualize these killer robots.

Because of these all, and for obvious reasons, the humanoid characters have then become the subjects of fan art, cosplay, as well as pornography.

And judging by the discussions on Reddit and social media platforms, there are users who were asking themselves if it’s normal to be sexually attracted to two faceless androids.

Here, the twins definitely received that reception previously received by the character Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village, who has also been the subject of the internet's lust.

Whereas Lady Dimitrescu attracted the underlying fetish of an abnormally tall woman with an air of nobility, Atomic Heart attracts that cyber-dominatrix vibe.

The Ballerina Twins, or also known as "The Twins," are creations of roboticist Dmitry Sechenov.

The Twins, known only as "Left" and "Right", are two advanced humanoid robots, created to be the personal assistants and body guards of Sechenov.

They're also called the Ballerina Twins because the two are created like robotic ballerinas, and that their original model was meant for dance performances.

At times, just like ballerinas, they can make moves lake ballerinas, but sometimes in disturbing ways.

They can do this because they have extreme finesse, agility, and also speed.

The androids may look feminine, but they are also powerful and that they can easily leap very high. They can easily overwhelm players, and kill them with only a few direct hits.

Even more, a Redditor posted a fake IGN macro that falsely claimed that Atomic Heart will have a six-hour sex cutscene between the main character and a Ballerina Twin.

Among other reasons, this made the subreddit viral.

Then, there is the fact that players can upgrade their weapons by visiting a vending machine-like upgrade terminal. Often referred to as NORA, the machine is literally a red horny robot that will flirt and talk dirty.

For more than often, the lust-driven terminal will start very raunchy dialogue, which can include begging the protagonist to "squirt your Polymer inside me!"

Many players may feel revolted, and consider it the most ridiculous video game characters ever. But others just couldn't get enough of that.

NORA's popularity among players even made the machine deserve its own Rule 34 section.

Then, some internet user even made a made up collaboration between the brand VIZIT and Mundfish, in which the former releases Atomic Heart condoms, which packaging design is inspired by the twin robots.

Regardless, Atomic Heart managed to maintain a continuous level of buzz by letting the criticisms, and the fetishism, to flow.
