The internet allows users to share almost anything. But sadly, that anything includes photos that are uploaded without the subject's consent.
Tarra Nadhira Hindersah was a college student in Jakarta, Indonesia. Little did she knew that lots of people were trading her private pictures, after her alleged boyfriend sought revenge.
It is said that Tarra uploaded raunchy photos of her in various poses to Facebook, but made the photos private.
The thing is, her ex-boyfriend knew Tarra's Facebook account's login credentials, and thus, managed to get hold of the photos, and made them publicly available.
At least 50 photos were leaked.
Sooner than later, other Facebook users who realized this, quickly downloaded them, and shared them on other platforms, most notably through BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), a popular messaging platform at the time.
It is said that Tarra attended Binus University (also known as Bina Nusantara), a popular university in Indonesia's capital city.
When the photos were leaked, her name went so viral, that the Indonesian government was rumored to have blocked several local websites where users shared Tarra's explicit photos. It's even said that some smaller websites that hosted Tarra's photos on a shared hosting environment, were running out of their monthly data transfer limit in just a few days of uploading.
While Tarra Nadhira Hindersah managed to become a trending name on both search engines and social media platforms, the Indonesian government succeeded in suppressing the photos' spread, that little does the internet knew about Tarra's existence months after the leak.
A similar thing happened to some other private photo leaks that happened before this.
Lydia Shefty, for example, or 'Chika Bandung'. The two girls' explicit photos are all over the web, but little does the internet know about them.
Despite they are victims of doxxing, there aren't that many publicly available information about them, outside their photo leaks.
It's worth noting that Tarra had a blog, where she documented some of her activities in real life. But soon after the leak, she stopped updating the blog with new posts, and eventually removed all posts altogether.
It is said that Tarra was a volunteer to help poor children during her free time.
