The internet allows people to share almost anything, and back in the earlier days of the technology, sharing raunchy content has already been a thing.
In the early 2000s in Indonesia, many people in the archipelago country in Southeast Asia were still offline.
Those who were already online, were users of Yahoo!, and among others, also users of the extremely popular online forum Kaskus.
The online platform allows the conversation of almost anything, and at the time, during the days when pornographic contents were still largely allowed in Indonesia, Kaskus had a section on its website called "BB17" where users could share adult contents, including nudity.
And among the threads, one that made its way to the top, was the one with Lydia Shefy, a schoolgirl who had her private photos leaked.
Not only that Lydia was considered the first major leak of privacy photos in Indonesia, but also the first major instances of online doxxing.
This is because the dozens of photos that were leaked, not only showed her in various stages of undressing, as well as explicit frontal nudity in various poses, but also her complete personal information.
This happened because the uploader of the photos also leaked a scan of Lydia's high school yearbook which details her full name, date-of-birth, home address and home phone number, as well as her cellphone number.
Quickly after her photos were first uploaded to Kaskus, others started resharing them on other online platforms, including through emails, online group, and adult websites.
People were also spreading her photos on Friendster, a social media platform extremely popular amongst Indonesians at the time.
In short, Lydia's photos were considered the first viral online pornography in Indonesia.
The photos were allegedly taken when Lydia Shefty was still attending her studies at Al-Azhar, an Islamic school in Kebayoran Baru, at Indonesia's capital Jakarta.
Lydia Shefty photo leak was considered Indonesia's first major cases of private photos leak, the earliest case of viral amateur online pornography in the country.
While some may had their photos leaked to the young internet in one way or another, both in Indonesia and elsewhere in the world, but Lydia's photos were amongst the most viral in Indonesia at the time.
It happened way before online adult websites became popular, and long before smartphones and mobile internet came into place.
In other words, it happened when people had to connect manually to the internet.
In many cases, the many people who wish to see Lydia's photos, had to purposefully use their computers to browser the internet through dial up connection, since broadband access was still expensive.
Based on the doxxed information of her and the time when the photos went viral, it's suggested that Lydia was in her late teenage years when the photos were taken.
