
It's an arms race, and the competition keeps on getting fiercer.
When OpenAI launched ChatGPT in late 2022, it wasn’t just a moment—it was a movement. The world took notice, and the floodgates of large language model (LLM) demand burst open. Enterprises, developers, and everyday users alike were suddenly captivated by the potential of conversational AI.
In response, a number of companies scrambled to establish their own footholds in the rapidly expanding generative AI landscape.
Among them was Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI safety and research company founded by former OpenAI employees.
Anthropic’s flagship model, Claude, was born from a desire to build a language model that not only rivaled ChatGPT in capability but emphasized alignment, safety, and interpretability.
As Claude sets itself apart by being "Constitutional AI," Anthropic announced that its Claude AI can now integrate with Google Workspace.
This collaboration allows the AI assistant to access any information in Gmail, Google Documents and Google Calendar.

In a post on its website, Anthropic said that:

Claude's new research capability fundamentally changes how the AI gathers and reasons through information.
Instead of pulling isolated facts, it works more like a thoughtful investigator—carrying out a series of linked searches that build on one another, each one informed by what it has just learned. It doesn't just answer questions—it actively decides what to look into next, approaching topics from multiple angles and resolving uncertainties step by step.
This method results in deep, well-rounded responses, supported by clearly cited sources so users can easily verify where its insights come from.
So, whether users are diving into a complex topic or juggling several research-heavy tasks in a single day, Claude balances speed with depth—delivering reliable answers that are ready when they need them.
Research is available in beta for Max, Team, and Enterprise plans in the United States, Japan, and Brazil.
Separately, the Google Workspace integration is now available for all paid plans.

With Claude's integration with Gmail and Calendar ando Google Docs, the AI can gain deeper insight into users' work, giving it the ability to get the context out of them.
"By connecting Google Workspace, Claude can securely search emails, review documents, and see your calendar commitments – eliminating the need to manually upload files or repeatedly provide context about your work and schedule," Anthropic said.
This way Claude is able to to things like pulling together meeting notes, identify action items from follow-up email threads, and search relevant documents for additional context.
Claude can then bring these insights directly to users, simplifying the process, effectively eliminating hours of manual work, allowing users to just focus on more important things instead of information gathering.
"Claude will provide inline citations that you can use to verify the source, so that you can trust Claude is working from the most recent context," Anthropic added.
Just like OpenAI's Deep Research mode, Claude’s Research transforms Claude into an AI agent, capable of searching the web and internal documents to deliver a lengthy report within a few minutes, using “enterprise-grade security” in order to maintain the "confidentiality of your organization’s knowledge while delivering precise answers."
It's worth noting that Claude is not the first AI integrated with Google Workspace. Before, this, Google has integrated its own Gemini across Gmail, Docs, Drive, Slides and Sheets. But here, since Google owns 14% of Anthropic, and has invested over $3 billion in the company, this third-party collaboration is made possible.
