WhatsApp Wants To Allow Users To Use Two Accounts On The Same Phone, At The Same Time

WhatsApp

Communication is key to almost everything, and WhatsApp nailed it well.

This is because the popular messaging app, owned by Meta, is the most popular of them all in terms of users. With billions using it to communicate, WhatsApp has become so trivial, and so inseparable for those many people's lives.

WhatsApp, indeed, has revolutionized the way we communicate, both personally and professionally, due to how easy it is for anyone to use it.

All if takes, is a smartphone, a valid SIM card, the WhatsApp app, and an internet communication.

With wide accessibility, and straightforward features, all of the perks have contributed to its soaring significance in people's daily lives.

And because WhatsApp has become so ubiquitous, Meta knows that many of its users use more than one phone number, either for personal or work, or for both personal and work.

Because of this, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that WhatsApp shall soon allow users to use two accounts on the same phone.

The feature, which is already been made available on Android in the beta version of WhatsApp since August 2023, is meant to help those who have separate phone numbers for their two WhatsApp accounts.

In a blog post, Meta said that:

What’s better than having a WhatsApp account? Well, of course it’s having two.

Today, we’re introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place.

To set up a second account, you will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone that accepts multi-SIM or eSIM. Simply open your WhatsApp settings, click on the arrow next to your name, and click “Add account”. You can control your privacy and notification settings on each account.

It's worth noting that Android is known for being a mobile operating system that allows vast customization abilities.

Previously, Android users may use app cloning or dual apps.

These apps allow users to "clone" their apps, including WhatsApp, which essentially means that it allows two separate instances of the app. This feature might be found in the settings menu of the phone, depending on the brand and model. Users may also use third-party apps that allow them to run multiple instances of the same app.

With the feature to run two accounts in one WhatsApp installation simultaneously means that users are no longer required to clone their apps any more.

Similarly, WhatsApp on its own blog post, said that:

As a reminder, only use the official WhatsApp and don’t download imitations or fake versions as a way of getting more accounts on your phone. Your messages are only secure and private when using the official WhatsApp.
