Apple iPad Pro With Gold Touch ID Ring And Silver Back, A Rare Factory Defect

16/11/2015

Apple is known for the quality control it places on the assembly line.

Usually, defective units are separated from the production line. And even if defective Apple products do make it out of the factory from time to time, those devices are usually caught up in production faults.

In general, defects are destroyed to avoid them getting into the hands of collectors and users.

This is the reason why it's extremely unusual for a single impacted device can see the light of day. And it's even more uncommon for someone to be able to purchase one.

But this particular iPad Pro managed to pass all that.

This rare instance shows that even a company with one the best quality controls in the tech industry can pass a product with factory defect.

The iPad Pro was first launched to the public in 2015, in three color choices: Silver, Gold, and Space Gray.

As with all Apple products, the Touch ID ring found on the Space Gray model is black, while the ring is Gold on the gold model and is Silver on the silver model.

But this particular iPad pro, has a different color combination.

Shared by a reader of 9to5Mac, the silver iPad Pro features a gold Touch ID ring.

The reader purchased his iPad Pro through AT&T with LTE and 128GB of storage. Everything else about the iPad is correct – the back is silver, the edges are silver, and the iPad Pro shown on the box is silver with a silver Touch ID ring.

When the person tried contacting Apple about the problem, Apple told him that his iPad is an “extremely rare” manufacturing error, and that he needs to go to AT&T to get a replacement. Contacting AT&T, the person also received the same statement, saying that his iPad Pro is a rare production issue.

The person at the end of the line even told him that he could get a lot of money by selling it on eBay.
