When something is mass-produced, there is no way of guaranteeing everything will turn out the exact way it is designed or intended.
This is why sometimes, there are factory defects. Or in this case, a rare valuable item.
Rylee Stuart is a 13-year-old Australian teen, living in the Gold Coast, when she went viral on TikTok after she revealed a unique Dorito chip, and questioned whether it had any value.
The chip is bloated across all three of its characteristic points, and Rylee found it while snacking on the treats.
"I found a puff Dorito. Is this valuable or should I just eat?" asked Rylee to her followers.
Quickly, her post racked in millions of engagements.
Realizing the demand, one TikTok users suggested her to put the "rare" chip to auction on eBay, in which she did.
The snack treat was originally listed for AU$0.99 plus AU$6.20 postage in a post describing it as "puffy Dorito one of a kind."
However, there were more people interested in getting the chip.
As people started bidding to win themselves the rare puffy Doritos, the bids went up to AU$20,000.
Rylee said that she screamed in excitement when she saw the bids go that price.
Her family was elated with the bids and her dad joked that the chip belonged to him as he bought it.
Things did not stop just there, as the price was still going up, to even go beyond AU$100,000.
Unfortunately for the young girl, the listing was taken down after it attracted a lot of attention online.
But fortunately for her, the story has attracted so much attention, that Doritos think that it needed to show itself.
The company stepped in, and offered Rylee AU$20,000 for the chip.
"We've been so impressed with Rylee's boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos," said Vanita Pandey, the Chief Marketing Officer at Doritos.
"It's been a whirlwind couple of days for Rylee and her family and we've loved following her story," she added.
Rylee told the outlet that she had thought about just eating the chip, but then had second thoughts.
"I was about to eat it, and I thought I better save it for later," she said. "Dad is saying that since he bought the packet, it's his chip. But I ate the packet and found it, so I believe it is mine."
This was when Rylee thought of sharing what she found to TikTok, and ask her followers what to do.
